Due to internal movement, we are excited to be hiring for a permanent reporter to join the News and Current Affairs team based in our Wellington newsroom.

The opportunity - Te tūranga

In this role reporting to Wellington Bureau Chief, you will report on nationally significant news and events for our audience and cover news and perspectives from Wellington and surrounding regions. Deliver original stories and use creative storytelling across all platforms to produce fair, balanced and accurate journalism.

Your accountabilities will include:

• Generate exclusive/original/enterprise stories, working and communicating with the Wellington Bureau Chief to ensure news coverage can be developed for any TVNZ NCA programme or platform such as 1News.co.nz and News on TVNZ+.
• Consistently deliver fast, accurate, entertaining and fair journalism.
• Use every opportunity to supply images, scripts, web text or information so all TVNZ programmes and platforms are running the latest developments on your story.
• Endeavour to understand the requirements of News on TVNZ+ and provide coverage for the platform.
• Push your storytelling to other platforms, for example, digital explainers, analysis and commentary based on specialist

What we're looking for - Tā mātou e kimi nei

We are looking for a journalist with a passion for news and reporting on the national and local issues that matter to Wellington and the surrounding regions. Our ideal candidate will have a track record of breaking stories and producing high-quality video news reporting.

They can work to a deadline and perform well under pressure. A team player with a willingness to work towards the smooth operation of the Wellington bureau, the Wellington reporter needs the confidence to make decisions and a high-level of trouble shooting and problem-solving ability.

We also want someone who is safety conscious and able to communicate clearly if safety concerns arise. Driven and focused, they will demonstrate high levels of integrity and honesty. We want someone adaptable and proactive with strong interpersonal skills across a broad range of levels, cultures and skills areas.

A tertiary journalism qualification is preferred as is practical experience in a broadcast news environment, familiarity with the Wellington region and an interest in/knowledge of political reporting.
