Help shape the future of Edmonton! The City of Edmonton is seeking a passionate and dedicated Research Analyst to join our Social Development Branch within the Community Services Department. As a Research Analyst, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our policies and initiatives are rooted in evidence-based research and data analysis. You will support various portfolios by providing reliable research on social issues, contributing to both operational and strategic decision-making. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including community organizations, academic institutions, and other orders of government. Your ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it effectively will be essential in shaping impactful social policies and strategies.
What Will You Do?
- Contribute to developing social policy frameworks and strategic plans for Edmonton
- Conduct comprehensive research on social issues impacting our city, utilizing a variety of sources and methodologies
- Manage project plans including public and internal engagement, research, policy development, implementation, and evaluation
- Analyze data, report findings, and present recommendations to inform policy development and program evaluation
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to gather information, share knowledge, and build consensus around social development initiatives
- Develop and implement robust public/stakeholder engagement processes and activities, working in collaboration with Communications & Engagement
- Stay informed on social trends and best practices
- Lead a variety of assigned projects, including those of a complex and sensitive nature
- Prepare Council Reports responding to motions and inquiries regarding social policy and systems
- Establish criteria for program evaluation and assist in developing and implementing program monitoring, performance evaluation, and tools
- Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Human Ecology, Data Analysis, Business Administration, or a related field
- A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in research and analysis, preferably within a social development context
Assets:
- Experience working with social sector, including the development programs and strategies
- Project management training and/or certification
- Experience in publishing research papers and leading research work with academic or non academic institutions
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent); You may be asked to arrange your own transportation for use while on City business
Skills Required for Success:
- Experience navigating levels of government, large corporations, and community organizations
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and manage social research projects
- Excellent project and process management skills, with the ability to lead complex projects
- Understanding of program/policy evaluation methods and their practical application
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely, and to write persuasive reports and recommendations
- Exceptional research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to to build strong relationships and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
- Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Experience in facilitating focus groups and preparing comprehensive community reports that effectively summarize findings and provide actionable insights

Conditions of Employment:
- Hire is dependent upon a Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton.
Work Environment:
- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
- Some travel within the city may be required

Salary: $41.172 - $51.438 Hourly; $72,534.77 - $90,620.90 Annually
