Research And Development Specialist In Test Development For Grade 1

The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) at the University of Luxembourg brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences.

Your role

Are you passionate about educational assessment and eager to contribute to the development of innovative, large-scale testing in a multilingual environment? Join our team at LUCET and take a leading role in the design and development of state-of-the-art, standardized achievement tests in mathematics for Grade 1 in the frame of the Luxembourgish School Monitoring Programme – Épreuves Standardisées (ÉpStan).

At LUCET, you will work in a collaborative and research-driven environment, contributing to meaningful advancements in educational assessment. You will be part of a motivated team dedicated to improving educational outcomes through high-quality, multilingual testing.

The following general research tasks are included in the responsibilities of the research and development specialist:

  • Develop and enhance ÉpStan mathematics competency tests for Grade 1, ensuring their validity, reliability, and fairness across multiple languages
  • Contribute to and support the development of new and innovative psychometric measures within ÉpStan
  • Support the coordination, quality assurance, and logistics of large-scale assessments
  • Conduct statistical analyses on data related to mathematics achievement testing
  • Present research findings to colleagues and external stakeholders
  • Engage in ongoing and future research projects related to ÉpStan and other initiatives within LUCET
  • Contribute to scientific articles, reports, and presentations, as well as LUCET’s public outreach activities
  • Perform any other tasks relevant to the role

Your profile
  • A Master’s degree (or higher) in psychology, social sciences, mathematics, or a related field
  • Proven expertise in test development and in-depth knowledge of achievement testing
  • Profound knowledge of the Luxembourg school system
  • Experience in coordinating and moderating teams
  • An independent, conscientious approach to work while maintaining strong collaboration within existing working groups
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written proficiency in Luxembourgish, English, and either French or German; knowledge of all four languages is a significant asset
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team environment
