We are now looking for

Research Assistant

to join us in the Research Unit for Languages and Literature, English, for a fixed-term position of six months from 1 October 2026 until 31 March 2027.

The Research Unit for Languages and Literature explores questions and phenomena in language studies, literature and cultural studies. Its research builds on theories and approaches in functional linguistics, interaction analysis, conversation analysis, cognitive linguistics, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, second language acquisition, communication, research on cultural memory and imagination. In general, its research studies social and cultural changes in communicative practices from linguistic, literary and cultural perspectives, hence aligning closely with the University of Oulu’s research focus area Understanding humans in change and the research strategy in the Faculty of Humanities.

About the job

• You will work in the EU Horizon funded project NewWorkTech, or From the Margins to the Masses: Standard Practices and Innovative Uses of Technology in Augmenting Different Abilities of People in Worklife (www.newworktech.eu).
• Your duties will consist of assisting in administrative tasks such as project reporting, keeping in contact with project partners around Europe, and facilitating the planning of present and future joint endeavours in the project.

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect you to have:

• Background in working on similar tasks and a professional attitude towards managing administrative tasks
• Fluency in written and spoken English in the academic register with IT and communication skills

We also appreciate:

• Experience gained on university or other high organizational level

The position fits well, among others, a doctoral researcher progressing with their thesis on the side. International applicants are welcomed! Salary

The position is a fixed-term position of six months from 1 October 2026 until 31 March 2027.

The salary will be based on the level 4 of the demand level chart for other expert and support staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). Starting gross salary will be approx. 2300-2500 EUR per month (before taxes). A trial period of 3 months is applied to the position.
