Research in the Bartlett Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) focuses on building a science of cities from a multidisciplinary base, drawing on cutting edge methods and ideas in modelling, complexity, visualisation and computation. About the role

We’re looking for a Research Assistant to start as soon as recruited. The post is offered on a part-time basis at 20 hours per week and is funded until 14/03/2025 in the first instance. The appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B and starting salary offered will be in the range of £38,357 - £39,007 pro rata, per annum, inclusive of London Allowance, due to limited amount of funding available. Please note: this Grade 6B Research Assistant role is aimed at early career researchers – we are unfortunately unable to consider applicants who already hold a PhD or are due to complete their PhD during the period of the contract. The postholder will assist the research team working on the EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) award funded project “Data-driven policy recommendations for improving fire and emergency service delivery at West Midlands Fire Services”. The project aims to conduct exploratory data analysis of the historical fire services and to meet with various teams at West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS), in order to understand the context and potential reasons for the declined fire and rescue services in WMFS. Based on these analysis and communications, the team will provide policy recommendations on improving work efficiency of WMFS. The successful candidate will assist the team with literature review, communicating with stakeholders, and writing reports. About you

The postholder will have a Masters Degree in relevant subject area (geography, urban planning, public policy, etc). They will also have experience in research related to geospatial data analysis and regression analysis; a working knowledge in Python or R programming language, GIS, and visualisation. They should also demonstrate ability to undertake descriptive and regression statistical analysis using appropriate software; high-level ability to source, clean, and analyse geospatial data; ability to engage with and manage a range of stakeholders; ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team; high-level written and oral communication skills to present complex information effectively; ability to work autonomously to agreed deliverables and ability to conduct literature review on a relevant topic.
