Compensation Range

Job Summary
The of this position is to support the principal investigator within all research projects for Dr. Sabre Cherkowski in her role as Tier 1 Principal’s Research Chair. This is a multifaceted position that combines responsibilities with research activities across a variety of projects and events. Major responsibilities include: collaborating with the principal investigator and team in the development of strategic work plans and the setting of priorities and goals related to the research projects; management of budgets and related reporting; refining data collection and analysis plans and developing detailed protocols; coordinating forums for knowledge mobilization; organizing data management and analysis; facilitating innovative initiatives to support knowledge translation; overseeing management/preparation of reports of research findings, and their dissemination; building effective working relationships with research partners and collaborators and mentoring graduate research assistants hired in the various projects.

Organizational Status
The Research Coordinator will report to the Principal Investigator Dr. Sabre Cherkowski.

Work Performed
Support the Principal Investigator with providing oversight of all research projects:
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator in the development of strategic work plans, setting priorities, identifying milestones and goals.
  • Coordinate and oversee activities related to data collection, data management and analysis for all components of the research projects.
  • Prepare literature reviews and assist with writing academic and professional products
  • Assist with preparing presentation materials for conference presentations and talks.
  • Mentor research assistants.
  • Ensure ethical standards of research are followed.
  • Oversee and coordinate activities related to the development of research proposals.
  • Oversee and participate in data gathering, analysis, and reporting activities.
  • Manage budgets and monitor budget expenditures to ensure financial viability of research project.
  • Create and foster relevant relationships with internal and external research partners.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with potential partners to develop collaborative research projects.
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports for the PI and associated research teams. Identify areas of concern and provide recommendations for resolution.
  • Complete funding agency documents for submission and prepare and submit necessary applications for ethics approval.
  • Develop and update knowledge translation venues and products (e.g., websites, LinkdIn, Research gate)
  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of research-related conferences/events.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Principal Investigator will monitor the work of the Research Coordinator. Errors or incorrect decisions will seriously compromise the quality of the research analysis, manuscripts and proposals and result in delays in submitting the proposal for funding. Additionally, serious compromises in the quality of the proposal or subsequent data management will jeopardize the likelihood of obtaining funding and could negatively impact the reputation of the project and department.

Supervision Received
The Research Coordinator will work under the broad directive of the Principal Investigator. It is imperative that the Researcher work collaboratively with minimal supervision. S/he will alert the Principal Investigator to any unusual situations, and will keep them advised of problems as they arise or are anticipated.

Supervision Given
The Research Coordinator will mentor graduate research assistants hired for the research projects, providing direction and advising on technical aspects of the project. Regular audits of work completed will be done.

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in relevant discipline would be an asset.
  • Experience with leading, supervising, and managing research projects; planning experience; developing agreements, and developing research synergies.
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods applicable to research.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and innovative thinking.
  • Knowledge of UBC policies and procedures, including familiarity with grant funding and research ethics board requirements would be an asset.
  • Self-directed with the ability to set priorities and exercise sound judgement and take the initiative.
  • Effective organizational skills and the ability to manage a team as well as projects from start to completion within strict deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, editing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, and internet skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others in a team environment.
