Context And Mission


DARE project (Digital Autonomy with RISC-V in Europe), is a strategic project for BSC whose aim is to address Europe’s deficit in digital autonomy for High-Performance Computing and AI, by creating truly European products for the next generation of EU supercomputers for research and industry. The DARE Software Project manager will be responsible for providing timely and efficient coordination of one of the critical Technical Areas of the initiative: The Software Technical Area led by BSC.
The DARE Software Project Manager will closely work with the DARE Software Technical Area Coordinator.
This position will report to the DARE Global Project Manager and will be located at the Computer Science-PMO team within the Project Management Office (PMO).


Key Duties


  • Carefully plan the use of resources, monitor work progress, anticipate possible problems, and maintain excellent communication with the DARE Software Technical Area Coordinator and the DARE Global Project Manager.
  • Keep track of budgets and effort spent and produce use of resources reports to ensure the Technical Area resources expenditure is in track with the work progress.
  • Support the Technical Area Coordinator to monitor the technical progress of the Technical Area and the critical paths, to implement a top-down risk monitoring.
  • Prepare and submit high-quality interim reports (potentially monthly) on time (by collecting and reviewing information from all partners involved in the Software Technical Area) to the DARE Global Project Manager.
  • Help resolve possible disputes between partners within the Software Technical Area.
  • Organise and coordinate Technical Area General meetings (both virtual and F2F).
  • Participate in DARE PMO meetings led by DARE Global Project Manager.
  • Participate in Global DARE Project meetings and reviews and other meetings with the funding authority as requested.
  • Take the lead in negotiating, and supervising the drafting and signing process of DARE Software Technical Area-related contracts such as NDAs or any other legal document which may arise ensuring that the BSC's and its researchers' interests are protected. Interface with BSC legal services, BSC researchers and external parties. Support the Global Project Manager in the supervision and signature of other legal documents when required.
  • Others. Support to the department´s Computer Science in other management tasks within the Computer Science-PMO team when required and collaborate to improve the operation of the PMO by sharing best practices.


Requirements


  • Education
    • University degree
    • Related courses in project management and research project proposal preparation a plus
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • At least three years of experience in European research project management (full lifecycle)
    • Fluency in English essential
    • Good skills in word processing, spreadsheets and presentation applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint or equivalents)
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Experience coordinating research proposals and projects funded by the Framework Programme of the European Commission, the Spanish Plan Estatal as well as bilateral contracts with companies, would be an advantage
  • Competences
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Willing to travel
    • Used to working autonomously and taking the initiative
    • Used to working under pressure with strict deadlines


Conditions


  • The position will be located at BSC within the Directors Department
  • We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
  • Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
  • Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
  • Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
  • Starting date: 01/01/2025
