We are now looking for Research Scientist for MEMS fabrication

with background in developing microelectronic devices and cleanroom processes. You identify and solve problems independently and creatively, while working closely and flexibly with a team of experts. You focus on the fabrication of various MEMS devices, for example MEMS sensors, micromachined ultrasonic transducers or tunable optical filters. You understand how the device designs are realized into functional devices through microfabrication techniques.

Our team focuses on microsystems for medical applications. We are working with optical devices such as tunable filters based on Fabry-Pérot interferometers, infrared detectors, thermophotonics for optical cooling and energy harvesting. Our further technologies include various MEMS sensors and ultrasonic devices and systems. These technologies enable us to solve world-class problems with our partners for cleaner and safer environment and society, more sustainable industries, and better health and wellbeing. We are now reinforcing our expertise in cleanroom manufacturing and quality improvement.

Your responsibilities as Research Scientist:

• Developing novel MEMS processes with our other process development experts.
• Tackling challenges in introducing new materials and processing methods
• Process integration for process modules to realize novel MEMS components together with device designers.
• Characterization of the processes and process results.
• Identifying and solving the key issues within your domain of expertise.
• Communicating and solving those issues in tight collaboration with others at VTT.
• Communicating and solving problems with external partners.

Who we are looking for:

• You have a Master’s degree in micro- and nanotechnologies, materials science, chemistry, electronics, or closely similar field
• You have experience in cleanroom fabrication.
• Expertise with one or more of the following process areas: deposition, lithography, etching, back end processes etc.
• Knowledge in materials of microelectronics
• Skills in process and materials characterisation
• Device modelling and design experience is beneficial
• Excellent communications skills in English are required.
