Job Summary

The Resident Medical Officer will provide round-the-clock clinical care to patients admitted to the hospital, with a primary focus on oncology patients. The RMO will support consultant oncologists, monitor patients, manage medical emergencies, maintain accurate clinical documentation, and coordinate with nursing and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, timely, and compassionate patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial clinical assessments of admitted patients and document medical history, examination findings, and treatment plans.
  • Perform regular patient rounds and monitor patients’ clinical condition, vital signs, investigations, and treatment response.
  • Provide supportive care to patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, palliative care, and other cancer treatments.
  • Identify and promptly manage treatment-related complications, including febrile neutropenia, sepsis, allergic reactions, pain, dehydration, bleeding, respiratory distress, and electrolyte imbalance.
  • Inform the concerned consultant immediately regarding any significant change in a patient’s condition.
  • Assist in the management of critically ill and emergency patients according to hospital protocols.
  • Ensure timely administration of prescribed medications, fluids, blood products, and supportive treatments in coordination with the nursing team.

Clinical Coordination

  • Implement treatment instructions provided by consultants.
  • Coordinate with medical, surgical, radiation, pathology, radiology, nursing, nutrition, physiotherapy, psycho-oncology, and palliative care teams.
  • Facilitate timely investigations, specialist consultations, procedures, referrals, admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Provide proper clinical handovers during shift changes.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary discussions and clinical review meetings.

Procedures

The RMO may be required to perform or assist with procedures based on competency and hospital protocols, including:

  • Intubation
  • Arterial blood gas sampling
  • Central-line care
  • Basic airway management
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Wound assessment and dressing
  • Ascitic or pleural fluid procedure assistance etc

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely patient records.
  • Document progress notes, medication orders, clinical events, consent discussions, referrals, procedures, and handovers.
  • Prepare admission notes, discharge summaries, transfer notes, death summaries, and medical certificates as applicable.
  • Follow hospital policies related to patient safety, infection control, medication management, biomedical waste disposal, and clinical governance.
  • Report adverse events, medication errors, transfusion reactions, and other incidents according to hospital protocols.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with ethical and medico-legal requirements.

Patient and Family Communication

  • Communicate patients’ clinical status and care instructions clearly and compassionately, within the scope authorized by the treating consultant.
  • Educate patients and caregivers regarding medications, warning signs, infection prevention, nutrition, follow-up requirements, and home-care instructions.
  • Support Personalized patient care while respecting the patient’s preferences, dignity, emotional needs, and cultural values.

Qualifications

  • MBBS degree from a recognized medical institution.
  • Valid registration with the National Medical Commission or relevant State Medical Council.
  • BLS certification is mandatory or must be completed within the stipulated period.
  • ACLS certification is preferred.
  • Previous experience in oncology, internal medicine, emergency medicine, ICU, or hospital-based patient care is preferred.
  • Fresh MBBS graduates with strong clinical skills and an interest in oncology may also be considered.

  • Proficiency in maintaining electronic and physical medical records.
  • Willingness to work rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
