ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervise and manage the daily operations of the juvenile detention facility
- Responsible for execution of all administrative duties to include scheduling, employee timesheets, time off requests, and other duties as necessary
- Lead, train, and evaluate staff members, fostering a positive work environment and professional development
- Act as liaison by communicating important information such as policy or safety and security issues from line staff to detention administration and directives from administration to line staff
- Review and evaluate performance of subordinates via 90 day reviews, annual reviews, and ongoing performance feedback
- Ensure compliance with state regulations and all detention center policies
- Monitor the behavior and well-being of juveniles and intervene when necessary to maintain a safe environment
- Collaborate with law enforcement, court officials, and community organizations to support the needs of juvenile residents
- Conduct regular inspections of the facility to ensure safety, hygiene, and proper maintenance of the facility
- Interact with residents regularly to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services, making necessary adjustments based on feedback and outcomes
- Conduct monthly meetings with detention staff to communicate department issues, needs, or changes.
- Must be available or easily contacted at all times for advice, updates, or confirmation on policy and procedures
- Collaborate with other internal departments such as nursing, education, housekeeping, security, and intake to ensure all resident needs or restrictions are communicated
- Responsible for executing all other duties or tasks as assigned by the Assistant Director or Director of Detention

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
The position may be performed during extensive periods of standing and sitting; walking is a common physical function; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; the ability to work irregular hours/shifts will be necessary; Ability to physically intervene and restrain a juvenile resident when required
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL:
- Bachelor degree preferably in Sociology or Psychology
- Prior experience in juvenile justice, corrections, social services, or law enforcement
- Strong leadership and management skills, with a proven ability to effectively lead a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with diverse groups
- Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development and the juvenile justice system
- Able to handle stressful situations calmly and efficiently, utilizing verbal de-escalation skills when necessary
- Ability to be certified in the use of CPR, handcuffing, and physical tactics
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $53,662.00 per year
