About the Role

We are looking for Respiratory/Internal Medicine Physicians to join our dynamic, innovative, and friendly team with a focus on the delivery of high quality care to the growing population in the Bay of Plenty. We all practice General Medicine in addition to our speciality and all practice general Respiratory Medicine (with areas of specialty interest). We are looking for individuals to help innovate and integrate Respiratory/Internal Medicine services across secondary and primary care. Improving respiratory health for Māori patients is a key focus.

This fixed term role has arisen from the need to cover the sabbatical and annual leave of current team members.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Tauranga Hospital supports undergraduates from the University of Auckland School of Medicine across their clinical training and we therefore seek an individual who has the skills to foster a learning culture both in these students and also postgraduate multidisciplinary staff. We have a great track record of supporting RMOs to compete clinical postgraduate exams (FRACP) and there are many teaching opportunities. The clinical school also provides research opportunities both for private research and hosting pharmaceutical trials.

Our department is supported by Respiratory specialist nurses, a lung cancer specialty nurse, physiotherapists, a comprehensive lung function testing facility, bronchoscopy and Sleep service. The hospital has a well-resourced Radiology department.

About You

  • Applicants must hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.
  • Excellent communication skills and interested in education with respect to patients, whanau (family) and the community, to strengthen and empower multi-disciplinary services to develop an integrated model of care.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
