Embark on a journey with Hui Te Ananui a Tangaroa New Zealand Maritime Museum.

Celebrating the connection between people and the sea, the team of passionate staff and volunteers share New Zealand’s history and inspirational stories through extensive galleries, exhibitions, programmes and on-water experiences.

Sitting at the gateway of Auckland’s vibrant Viaduct Basin on Hobson Wharf, the museum is Auckland's primary CBD-based waterfront visitor attraction.

We are looking for a highly organised and sales-driven person to oversee the daily operations of our museum shop. In this role, you will be responsible for driving shop sales, improving conversion rates, and ensuring a curated retail space that aligns with our exhibitions and public programmes.

This is a hands-on, creative role ideal for someone with a passion for retail, visual merchandising, and inventory excellence. You’ll work closely with the wider Visitor Services team to train staff, manage stock, deliver strong reporting insights, and seek out new products that reflect the museum’s themes and stories.

This is a part time role of 15 hours per week, days to be discussed if you are invited to interview.

The role will also require occasional evening shifts and public holidays.

You will need to have previous experience in retail sales (supervisory or management experience preferred, but not essential if you are looking to step up)

To further guide you we require:

 Experience in inventory management and familiarity with POS systems.

 Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret customer trends and make data-driven decisions.

 A positive, proactive, and collaborative approach to work, with strong attention to detail.

 A willingness to grow your understanding of te ao Māori, and the confidence to incorporate te reo Māori and tikanga into your work.

Band: D

Salary: $58,000 – $62,250 per annum, pro rata, based on skillset, qualifications, and experience.
