Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Reunification Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in a range of child health support areas, including addiction counseling, family-based counseling, behavior management, health care management, household management, nutritional education, community resource support, and supervised visitation. The main goal of this position is to provide comprehensive support for families and children to ensure a holistic approach to child health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

Addiction Support Counseling:

  • Conduct ongoing risk assessments for parents and caregivers.
  • Provide referrals for substance abuse treatment.
  • Offer supportive counseling to individuals in addiction treatment programs, focusing on mitigating the impacts of addiction on parenting abilities.

Family-based Counseling:

  • Provide education, consultation, and follow-up services to strengthen family support systems.
  • Assess parent-child interactions and offer relevant guidance.
  • Deliver family counseling and skill-building sessions for parents and children in out-of-home placements.
  • Instruct on parenting skills and serve as a role model in appropriate techniques.

Behavior Management:

  • Carry out initial behavioral health assessments for families.
  • Develop and implement behavior modification plans in alignment with child development needs.
  • Educate parents on child behavior, age-appropriate socialization skills, and appropriate discipline techniques.
  • Offer counseling focused on stress management, conflict resolution, and impulse control.

Health Care Management:

  • Conduct initial physical assessments of family members.
  • Educate families on home health care practices.
  • Assist with the management of physical or behavioral illnesses, ensuring parents can handle medical regimens related to daily living tasks.

Household Management:

  • Provide safety instructions to families to minimize home hazards.
  • Emphasize the significance of home cleanliness for a child's health and offer strategies for maintaining hygiene standards.

Nutritional Education:

  • Instruct parents on safe food handling procedures.
  • Educate on the dietary needs of children, ensuring they receive proper nutrition.

Community Resources and Supports:

  • Encourage and instruct families on accessing community agencies and services.
  • Assist in life skills development, especially focused on securing and maintaining safe housing, food, clothing, and heat.

Supervised Visitation:

  • Oversee and facilitate visitations between parent(s) and children, as mandated by the Court, DCYF, and DJJS.
  • Educate parents on age-appropriate activities, discipline techniques, and behavior modification during these visitations.

Qualifications:

The Reunification Specialist must:

  • Be at least 22 years of age.
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major study in nursing, health, psychology, social work, sociology, education, guidance, or a related field emphasizing human relations, physical or behavioral health.
  • Alternatively, possess a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma and have 4 years of experience working with families or other relevant human services experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Coos and Upper Grafton counties.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 35 per week
