About the role

As the Risk and Compliance Officer, you will be an integral part of the Corporate Services Team, ensuring that Lowitja Institute operates with the highest standards of compliance and risk management. This dynamic role involves:

  • risk management leadership: develop, implement and manage the Institute's risk management framework, including Work, Health and Safety (WHS) protocols and organisational policies
  • compliance oversight: support corporate, statutory and contractual compliance across all areas, ensuring the Institute meets its obligations and strategic priorities
  • collaboration and culture: work closely with teams to foster a risk-aware culture, encouraging accountability and excellence in all aspects of the Institute's operations
  • governance and reporting: contribute to internal and external reporting, ensuring all actions align with Lowitja Institute's business and strategic plans
  • continuous improvement: lead initiatives to promote a safe, healthy workplace and drive the Institute's commitment to the Aboriginal Employment Strategy and internal audits.

What you bring

  • Cultural competency: a strong understanding of the health and wellbeing issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a culturally safe environment.
  • Risk and compliance expertise: proven experience in managing and implementing risk management, compliance and quality assurance frameworks, including familiarity with tools like LogiQC (or similar), to ensure adherence to organisational and regulatory standards.
  • Corporate services experience: extensive experience in a complex corporate services environment, including risk management, work health and safety, policy development and compliance.
  • Relevant qualifications (highly desirable): tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (or progress towards them) that demonstrate a commitment to professional development compliance and risk management.
  • Safety and quality focus: ability to provide and support systems that promote a culture of safety and maintain high standards of work quality and accuracy.
  • Self motivation and attention to detail: high levels of self motivation, conscientiousness and the ability to produce accurate, high-quality work consistently.

The Corporate Services Team ensures the efficient and smooth running of Lowitja Institute by managing key functions such as compliance, financial management, human resources and partner engagement, supporting the Institute's operational success and organisational priorities.
