The Role
As a Line 1 Risk Manager at NGS Super, you’ll play a key role in helping business units identify, manage, and mitigate risk across the Fund. You’ll support the Head of Line 1 Risk and the broader team to deliver practical, value adding risk and compliance solutions that strengthen business performance.
In this role, you’ll lead day to day risk and compliance activities and contribute to shaping a fit for purpose Risk Management Framework that meets regulatory expectations. Your work will ensure NGS Super continues to deliver on its commitments to members, regulators, and the wider community.
What you’ll do
- Support the Head of Line 1 Risk Centre of Excellence and other members of the Line 1 Risk team to deliver and monitor the NGS Super’s Risk Management Framework to facilitate compliance with relevant regulatory compliance requirements e.g. CPS 230, CPS 234 and SPS 220.
- Contribute to risk and compliance activities, assist with all incidents and breaches and with findings and actions arising from reviews or audits.
- Lead and maintain enterprise and business unit risk profiles by leading structured assessments, identifying key controls, and evaluating their effectiveness.
- Undertake control testing and assurance reviews to assess the effectiveness of key controls and identify areas for improvement.
- Monitor and interpret Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), escalating trends or issues that may impact the organisation’s risk profile.
- Provide expert Line 1 risk advice on new products, strategic changes, third-party arrangements, and operational resilience matters such as business continuity, disaster recovery, and crisis management.
- Offer guidance on incident management, financial resilience, and recovery planning, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations.
- Champion a strong risk culture by supporting business units in understanding and managing their risks and deliver training and awareness sessions on risk management practices and mitigation strategies.
A Risk professional with a background in Superannuation or other APRA regulated environments, you will bring the following key skills:
- 2-5 years hands-on risk experience in a Line 1 or Line 2 capacity.
- A sound understanding of regulatory guidance, including CPS 230, SPS220, and CPS 234.
- A track record of successfully managing key risk management and governance processes, such as risk profiling, risk and controls assessments / testing, attestations, risk in change management, third party risk assessments and enterprise risk assessments.
- Experience in managing risk in complex environments, including developing controls, performing assurance reviews, assessing risks and controls, incident and issue management and monitoring adherence to obligations.
- A proven ability to provide expert risk advice, while being able to manage multiple and complex stakeholders.
- Extensive experience with GRC tools.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with a history of supporting management committee and Board reporting.
- Tertiary qualification graduate or postgraduate in a relevant discipline
- Recognised relevant professional certification/accreditation (e.g. CPA, CA, CFA, CFP, DipFS, RG146).
- Membership of professional bodies such as the Australian Compliance Institute or the Risk Management Institute of Australia (RMIA).
- Use of AI to improve efficiency across work activities.
- Continuous Improvement: Knowledge or experience of hands-on implementation of continuous improvement programs and process solutions.
