We often collaborate closely with other teams in TSD such as Landscape & Planning, Survey and Contract Management, servicing wider units in Council.
We are committed to continuous improvement and ensure that our design services are efficient, sustainable, aligned with technological advancements and providing solutions that address the effects of climate change.
About the role | Ko te mahi nei
Our Roading Designers design roading projects within the Capital programme, mostly for the Transport Unit but sometimes for other units too. This looks like:
- Providing detailed roading design for urban and rural roads, intersection improvements and car parks.
- Designing road alignment and drainage solutions
- Preparing cost estimates relating to the design and construction of roading projects
- Preparing contract documents including schedules, specifications and draft contracts for road construction work
- Collaborating with staff, particularly project managers, to progress roading projects and develop good working relationships.
- Preparing technical reports and providing specialist advice to other Council staff on roading design issues.
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
Our ideal candidate will be a collaborative problem solver with experience working in project teams. They will be driven to grow and develop their skills, seeking out opportunities to challenge themselves. We would also be interested in candidates who may not currently be roading designers but are in a related part of the civil engineering industry (e.g. traffic engineering/ /street maintenance/stormwater) and interested in being trained in this area.
A high level of computer literacy will see them quickly pick up new design software (we use 12d and MicroStation CAD). They will also have:
- A Bachelors of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent tertiary qualification
- 5-10 years relevant experience involving roading design
- Experience in local government or a civil engineering organisation
- Experience adapting design solutions to consultation outcomes
