Job Description SummaryThis position is for a pediatric Forensic Nurse with the Center for Safe and Healthy Families. The primary location for this position will be at Primary Children’s Hospital, Salt Lake Campus, located in Salt Lake City, Utah. This position will require response to afterhours cases at both Primary Children's Salt Lake and Primary Children's Lehi Campuses. This position is full-time, 36 hours/week, with varying shifts and hours. This position does qualify for full-time benefits with Intermountain Health.
The Center for Safe and Healthy Families is the Child Protection/Maltreatment team at Primary Children’s Hospital. Our team specializes in providing patient-centered, trauma-informed care to patients that present with concerns for physical abuse, sexual abuse, and medical neglect. Our nurses provide phone triage and urgent response to the ED for forensic evaluations of patients who may have been sexually abused or assaulted. Nursing coverage is 24/7.
Nurses on our team will assist our physicians with patients in the clinic setting as well as see patients independently that present to the emergency department after hours, nights and weekends. The SHF Forensic Nurse will work closely with the ED team, as well as the SHF physicians, to care for our shared patients. The forensic nurse will photograph injuries, collect evidence, perform genital exams with use of colposcopy, as well as make mandatory reports to Law Enforcement and Child Protective Services. Applicants should have superior assessment skills, be able to work independently and as a team, and possess excellent critical thinking skills.
Hours : full time, 36 hours/week, varying shifts, and hours. These hours include a requirement for nights, weekends and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
Current RN License in state of practice.

Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

RNs with less than 12 months of working experience as an RN prior to joining Intermountain must obtain their BSN within five years of their start date.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN). Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. Forensic pediatric nursing experience.
Physical Requirements:
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
