Are you interested in becoming part of a pioneering Alternative Provision and SEMH school?

Would you like to join The Harbour School team and make your contribution towards our journey to OUTSTANDING and beyond?

Do you want to work in an optimistic and motivating environment, supported by effective leadership at all levels?

Do you have the resilience to work in a dynamic, trauma-informed, relational environment, with students that have social, emotional, academic and mental health needs?

If so, we would be delighted to hear from you!

Our school is looking for an experienced, passionate Safeguarding & Attendance lead to fill the full-time role at the Bridge AP Campus. This is a challenging but very rewarding role where you will take on the ‘day to day’ responsibility for safeguarding, child protection and attendance for students in KS4. You will work closely with the Deputy Headteacher, Safeguarding and Attendance Manager, KS4 Phase leader, key multi agency partners and parent/ carers to ensure that our KS4 students at The Bridge Campus receive the highest levels of care and support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure attendance (as directed by the Safeguarding & Attendance Manager, Phase Leader and/ or member of SLT) at Multi Agency meetings and ensure that outcomes are communicated via CPOMS and acted upon in a timely manner
  • Work positively to ensure the best possible outcomes for students at The Bridge campus
  • Use data effectively to monitor the impact of safeguarding and attendance interventions
  • Attend Annual Reviews and other key reviews as required
  • Be a part of the ‘on-call’ rota at The Bridge Campus
  • Work flexibly where necessary
  • Liaise with multi agency partners across the City to ensure they are fully informed of any issues that pertain to relevant and identified students.

To be successful as a Safeguarding and Attendance lead, you should be someone with a deep understanding of local and national safeguarding and attendance guidelines and procedures. Top candidates will be excellent safeguarding and attendance practitioners, able to use their knowledge and skills to ensure our students receive the highest level of support and care. The ability to make the role your own and build strong relationships is essential.

We are a multi-site organisation which includes our Bay Campus (including Primary at The Bay), The Bridge Campus, The Lighthouse Campus and the Vista Campus (including The Horizon Service) all based within the city of Portsmouth. We also have an Outreach Support Team and a Hospital tuition service based at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.

The Harbour School is an AP and SEMH school for students in Portsmouth. Our students range from year 5 up to year 11. We support students that have an EHCP for SEMH, those recovering from the trauma of permanent exclusion, those that unintentionally exclude themselves from education and children who cannot access school for medical reasons. At the Harbour school, we believe in a trauma-informed and relational approach to understanding behaviours in and out of the classroom. We believe in educational equity for all learners.

As a trust, our ethos is encompassed in our vision “Learning together in pursuit of happiness”. We put this into practice by ensuring:

  • All decisions are made in the best interests of staff, students and families.
  • High support, high challenge and evidence informed in everything we do.
  • We work collaboratively and make team, not individual, decisions.
  • We acknowledge our mistakes and use them to learn and improve.
  • We are always open to learning and seeking new ideas.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, this role involves directly working with children and significant contact with children, and therefore we expect all staff and volunteers to share the same commitment. Please ensure a full work history is completed in your application form including any gaps of employment. Applicants will be required to complete satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check for this post prior to commencement. The Trust is an equal opportunities employer.

If successfully shortlisted the HR Department will also be conducting an individual online search including social media platforms of your ‘name, education and employment’, to demonstrate due diligence following the updated ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023' guidance. The search will not form part of the actual shortlisting process and any concerns arising from the search will be discussed directly with you.

Closing date: 16th December 2024
