About the Role
The Safety Advisor - Cargo - Western Sydney Airport, provides support to Star Aviation’s Safety Management System (SMS) and ensures the ongoing promotion of a positive safety culture across the whole business. This role is responsible for coordinating safety initiatives, maintaining safety records, and assisting with investigations, audits, and compliance monitoring. The position plays a key role in ensuring safety-related activities are well-documented, communicated, and aligned with regulatory and organisational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Management System (SMS) Support
- Administer and maintain Star’s SMS database and documentation.
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the SMS in accordance with CASA, IATA and ICAO standards.
- Monitor, track and follow up on safety reports, corrective actions, and risk assessments.
- Assist in the preparation of safety performance data and trend analysis reports.
- Promote safety awareness through communication campaigns, newsletters, and safety meetings.
- Assist in the coordination of safety training and induction sessions for staff and contractors.
- Support a just and open reporting culture, ensuring staff are encouraged to raise safety concerns.
- Assist with the investigation of incidents, hazards, and near misses.
- Maintain accurate records of investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Provide administrative and analytical support for the review of safety data and event trends.
- Support internal and external audit processes, including scheduling, documentation, and follow-up actions.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with CASA regulations, IATA standards, and company procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date records of safety manuals, procedures, and policies.
- Contribute to the review and development of safety policies, procedures, and manuals.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and enhanced risk management practices.
- Participate in safety committees and cross-functional meetings.

Skills and Experiences:
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in an aviation, safety, or compliance-related role.
- Strong understanding of Safety Management Systems and risk management principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety reporting databases.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A valid Australian Driver’s Licence
- Ability to obtain and hold a valid Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
- Ability to obtain and hold a valid Airside Driving Authority (ADA)
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (or equivalent).
- Knowledge of CASA regulatory frameworks and ICAO Annex 19.
- Experience in data analysis or reporting for safety metrics.
- Prior experience in a ground operations or maintenance environment.
