Position: Sample Receiving Technician
Full-Time – Entry Level – Nonexempt
Location: Environmental Lab in Helena, Montana
Energy Laboratories, Inc. (ELI), an independent environmental testing laboratory founded in 1952, has an immediate opening for a Sample Receiving Technician at our Billings, MT facility. ELI specializes in organic, inorganic, trace metals, microbiological, and radiochemical analysis of water, waste, soil, air, and petroleum product samples. With over 60 years of industry leadership and six facilities across the Rocky Mountain Region, ELI provides services to municipalities, state and federal government agencies, the private sector, and energy and mining industries.
We are seeking a motivated individual for the Sample Receiving Technician role—an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow within a strong, established company. If you are dependable, enthusiastic, and career-minded, this may be the perfect opportunity for you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the first point of contact for customers, both in person and via phone.
- Receive and log samples accurately into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Interpret analysis requirements and serve as a liaison between customers and laboratory analysts.
- Ensure samples are prepared and distributed according to testing protocols.
Work Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Must be willing to work up to 10 hours of overtime per week, as needed
Job Qualifications
Strong communication skills with the ability to relay technical and environmental information clearly.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also functioning effectively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in computer use and data entry; critical thinking and problem-solving skills are a must.
- Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
- Quick learner who is self-directed and goal-oriented.
Preferred but not required:
- Associate degree in a science-related field, such as Chemistry, Biology, or Environmental Science, or relevant experience in a laboratory or scientific environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or previous environmental lab experience is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Starting pay: $19 /hour, depending on experience and education.
