Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Master's Level Counselor to join our mental health team. The ideal first candidate will provide evidence-based psychotherapy and counseling services to neurodivergent children (ages 4-years to 12-years) currently being educated in a new alternative placement school in Washington, D.C. The ideal second candidate will provide counseling services to non-neurodivergent children and adolescents (ages 11-years to 19-years) in a different public charter school in Washington, D.C. under the supervision of a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Placement will be between two different schools.

This role offers an opportunity to work in a supportive environment focused on holistic client care, utilizing a variety of therapeutic modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, and behavioral management. The counselor in the school setting will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized treatment plans and support students as they work to reach their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. If the candidate is an LGPC, they will also receive free supervision towards independent licensure.

Duties

• Provide individual and/or group counseling sessions utilizing techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and applied behavior analysis.
• Develop personalized treatment plans aligned with client needs and clinical best practices.
• Manage crisis situations through effective crisis intervention and crisis management strategies.
• Document clinical encounters accurately in compliance with HIPAA regulations, as well as the standards of the Office of the State Superintendent of Education and medical documentation standards.
• Coordinate care with medical professionals, social workers, case managers, and other healthcare providers.
• Utilize telehealth platforms to deliver remote counseling services when appropriate.
• Maintain current knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding updates, CPT coding, and behavioral health research to inform practice.
• Support clients with specialized needs such as developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, PTSD care, grief counseling, and gender issues counseling.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance clinical skills and stay updated on emerging therapies and research.

Skills

• Proven experience in psychotherapy modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, applied behavior analysis (ABA), and/or behavior management techniques.
• Excellent communication skills for intake assessments, patient care planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Ability to manage crisis situations effectively through crisis intervention strategies.
• Experience working with diverse populations such as children & family counseling, individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder.
• Familiarity with telehealth platforms for remote service delivery.
• Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to mental health care settings.
• Ability to handle sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
