School Bus Driver

Glassboro Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates in the capacity of a School Bus Driver. The position is responsilble for but not limited to the following duties:

QUALIFICATIONS; Must be 21 years of age, have a High School diploma, a basic New Jersey drivers license, and have three years driving experience. A minimum of a class commercial driver's license.Must have a P endorsement and S endorsement.

JOB GOAL /MAJOR FUNCTIONS ;

Safely and efficiently drive school bus to assigned location on a designated route in accordance with specified time schedulesand in accordance with regulationsand laws related to pupil transportation.Assure the safety of studentsduring transport and loading and unloading from buses. Perform routine safety inspections

1. Pick up and discharge students at establiched bus stops; escort students across the streets or roadways,stopping traffic as necessary; report incidents or conditions affecting the safety of students as appropriate.

2. Conduct pretrips and post-trip inspections.Maintain bus in a safe operating condition through prescribed daily vehicle inspections including cleaning windows,mirrors,and bus interior and exterior; check overall conditions of tires and rims, ensure there are no obstructions to the tires, check and maintain fuel, oil, (possible leakage) and water levels. Check brakes, brake lights, wheelchair lift, and doors ( including emergencey exits) report mechanical defects and malfunctions to appropriate personnel.

3. Inspect wheelchairs and car/safetyseats for safe transportation of students.

4. Instruct student of safe riding procedures; maintain order and discipline among passengers on the bus and while waiting at bus stops in accordance with District policies.

5. Assist students with special needs to board, ride , and exit the bus safely; assist students in wheelchairs by loading and securing chairs before departure and assuring students are safely fastened into their seats;

6. Communicate with students, parents, and district personnel, to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns related to bus routes, schedules, student behavior, and other assigned ativities.

7. Prepare student conduct, incident, and accident reports.

8.Maintain daily pretrip inspections with pretrip logs daily mileage, student count and school bus routing.

9. Conduct state mandated bus evacuation drills as required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT;

This is a ten month position with salary and contract termsto be negociated with the Superintendent and Board of Eduacation.

EVALUATION;

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of personnel.
