The Role As a School Bus Escort

You will be the welcoming face that starts and ends the school day for our pupils. Children with ASD often find transitions challenging. Your primary objective will be to provide a secure, predictablen and reassuring environment during transit. Working closely with the bus driver, you will manage the comfort, safety and well-being of the children from the moment they are collected from their parents until they are safely handed over to school staff, and vice versa.

Key Responsibilities

• Safety & Supervision: Ensure all children are safely seated with seatbelts securely fastened before the vehicle moves. Supervise the pupils continuously throughout the journey.
• Specialized Care: Provide appropriate support tailored to the individual sensory, emotional and behavioral needs of the children.
• Transit Assistance: Help children board and disembark the vehicle safely, managing bags and any specialized mobility or supportive equipment if required.
• Effective Handover: Manage the seamless transfer of care by communicating effectively with parents/guardians during collection and school staff upon arrival.
• Incident Reporting: Maintain clear communication with the Class Teacher regarding any behavioral changes, safety concerns or notable incidents during the commute.
• Confidentiality: Uphold strict professional boundaries and absolute confidentiality regarding the children’s data, medical histories and family details.

Requirements & Personal Attributes

• Experience: Prior experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is highly advantageous.
• Attributes: You must be patient, empathetic, highly dependable and capable of remaining calm and assertive in challenging situations.
• Vetting & Compliance: Appointment is strictly subject to successful Garda Vetting clearance and reference checks.
• Availability: Candidates must be fully available for both morning and afternoon shifts as outlined above throughout the academic school year.

Pay: €15.98 per hour

Expected hours: 15.0 per week
