We have a Permanent, Full-time position for Schoolwide Practitioner, at our Maungawhau | Mt Eden Office.

The major focus of the role of Schoolwide Practitioner is to train and support educators to implement the Positive Behaviour for Learning: School-Wide framework, ensuring the initiative is implemented with fidelity according to international best practice and ensuring that implementation is consistent nationally.

The School Wide Practitioner is responsible for the provision of high quality special education services to learning institutions, learners, parents, families/whanau, caregivers and to other service users in accordance with the guiding principles of Te Whaariki (Early Childhood Curriculum), Ka Hikitia and the New Zealand Curriculum Framework.

As the Schoolwide Practitioner, you will also:

  • Assess the readiness of schools to take up the School Wide Programme ensuring strong leadership commitment from the Principal and a full understanding of the requirements of the change that the school will undergo as it implements the programme.
  • Engage with the school commencing with the Principal followed by the staff explaining the School Wide programme framework and how it works, the role of the School Implementation team, data collection and the support provided through training, coaching and regular meetings.
  • Schedule and complete training for clusters of schools in the Tier One basic universal systems including training for the Principal and Team Leader, the School Implementation team/s and Coaches.

Salary range: $69,966 - $118,450 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mohou ake

To be successful in the role of Schoolwide Practitioner, you will have the following experience and capabilities:

  • Experience in a complex organisation.
  • Experience in building relationships and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes.
  • A tertiary qualification in education, psychology or other appropriate discipline relevant to the focus of the position (e.g., Special Education).
  • Demonstrated successful experience in classroom or other relevant settings and/or including students with special needs in classroom or other relevant settings.
  • Effective teaching practices.
  • Experience in child development, learning, and behaviour.
  • Experience of working in a Government agency and a sound understanding of the machinery of government, public sector delivery structures and systems.
  • A track record of bringing people together and leading, coaching and mentoring others to achieve outcomes.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, particularly relating to the establishment of effective relationships with educators, parents, families/whanau and caregivers.
  • Translate specialist knowledge into practical information that will assist in the development, provision and support of learning programmes in order to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Work effectively with educators across a diverse range of settings and circumstances.
  • The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

About our group and team | Matau ropu ake

Our team provides leadership and integrated services to the sector and others. This includes services such as learning support and education advice and regulation functions for schools and early learning services.

As a frontline group we develop and harness existing relationships with communities at the regional and local level through the Directors of Education, including deep relationships with iwi and hapu. Our Directors of Education have the lead role and relationship with early learning, kohanga, school and kura, and this means they will be across all the services we provide at a local level.

We also collectively strengthen relationships with our diverse communities who support Maori, Pacific peoples, disabled akonga and/or akonga with learning support needs, and akonga from disadvantaged backgrounds.
