Location: Explorium National Science & Sports Centre, Sandyford | Schedule: 5-day roster (Monday–Sunday, regular weekends required)

Role Purpose
The Science Team Lead is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and coordination of the museum team (Science team) while also overseeing the operation of the daily activities and the interactive exhibits in this space. The Science Team Lead provides exceptional customer service while ensuring a high standards of visitor experience and health and safety are maintained.
As the primary point of contact for frontline staff, the Science Team Lead provides operational leadership, supports staff performance and development, coordinates daily activities, and acts as the first response to visitor concerns, staff issues, safety incidents, and operational challenges.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership and Staff Development
· Lead, support, and motivate frontline Science team staff to deliver consistently high standards of engagement and customer service.
· Train, mentor, and onboard new team members.
· Lead by example in professionalism, communication, safety, and visitor engagement.
· Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture.
Visitor Experience and Customer Service
· Ensure visitors receive an engaging and high-quality experience throughout the Science Department.
· Act as the first point of escalation for visitor questions, concerns, complaints, and feedback.
· Support staff in managing challenging situations and resolving issues professionally.
Operations and Coordination
· Ensure exhibits, activity spaces, and public areas are operational and presentation standards are maintained.
· Coordinate the day-to-day operation and event management for the Science team and visitor-facing activities.
· Prepare and manage staff rosters to ensure appropriate operational coverage.
Health, Safety and Incident Response
· Promote and maintain a strong culture of health and safety throughout the Science Department.
· Act as a first responder for incidents, accidents, emergencies, and first aid situations.
Interdepartmental Communication and Collaboration
· Act as a key communication link between frontline staff, management, and support departments including cleaning, maintenance, catering, bookings, reception, and other operational teams
Exhibit and Programme Support
· Maintain a strong working knowledge of exhibits, programmes, workshops, and visitor activities.
Person Specification
Essential Experience
· Experience supervising, mentoring or leading staff or volunteers.
· Experience in customer service.
· Fluent English
Essential Skills & Attributes
· Passion for science and visitor experiences.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills in fluent English.
· High attention for detail.
· Advocate for health & safety.
· Strong leadership and team supervision skills.
· Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
· Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy visitor-facing environment.
· Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Head of Science and wider organisation.
· Highly proficient digital skills.
· Adaptable and comfortable working in a busy, changing environment.
· Authorisation to work a minimum of 30 hours per week in Ireland
Desirable:
· Full drivers licence.
· Experience in informal education, visitor attractions or summer camps.
Position Details
- Minimum 30 hours per week, fully onsite role
- Regular weekend work required
- Occasional evening and off-site work as needed
- Hourly rate €16.30 (25% premium for Sunday working)
Working Pattern
Explorium is open seven days a week. This role operates on a five-day roster, including regular weekend work.
