Your future tasks:

We seek an enthusiastic and energetic scientific programmer, who is ready and willing to work in an agile and innovative R&D environment. As successful applicant you will


support our team of scientists in writing showcase applications using the python environment of the new CDS, demonstrating key aspects of the Comprehensive Upper-air Observation Network data set (data will go public soon) and its fitness for purpose

  • help in writing documentation of the processing pipeline developed within the present Copernicus contract an

  • collaborate with other research groups and large research centres in the EU

There is opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in climate data assimilation and to pursue a PhD in Geosciences. Copernicus is expected to grow further in the next 5-10 years, providing interesting career opportunities beyond the duration of the advertised position.

This is part of your profile

We seek applicants with a strong mix of the following skills/expertise:


Completed Master of Computer Science or Master in Natural Sciences (essential)
  • ;
  • Demonstrated skills in Python programming, preferably in R&D (essential)
  • ;
  • Experience in maintaining and systematic testing of software stacks (essential)
  • ;
  • Fluent in spoken and written English. Ability to clearly document procedures, processes and work performed (essential)
  • ;
  • A rich tool box of statistical data analysis techniques and methodologies (essential).

Experience with NetCDF and relational databases (preferred)
  • ;
  • Experience with parallel programming in Python (Dask, Ray, multiprocessing) (preferred)
  • ;
  • Knowledge of German (preferred)
