How will you contribute?
As part of an ambitious initiative at the Belval Innovation Campus in Luxembourg, we are looking for an experienced researcher to work on the development of a 5G-enabled edge computing infrastructure supporting smart city applications. By joining our team, you will contribute to LIST’s strategic growth in 5G, 6G and edge computing and networking, addressing urban innovation needs through secure, resilient, and real-time solutions for the cities of tomorrow. The role focuses on leveraging the mobile-edge-cloud continuum, enabling the seamless distribution of computational resources from mobile devices to edge nodes and cloud infrastructure.
You will support both technical and strategic development across advanced mobile edge computing, artificial intelligence at the edge (aka edge AI), hyper reliable and low-latency communication, and distributed intelligence. It involves collaborating closely with team members and stakeholders to implement near real-time use-cases, support strategic proposal development, and explore new research avenues. Through this work, you will enhance LIST’s expertise and visibility in transformative fields central to the future of connectivity and intelligent systems.
Key roles and responsibilities:
- Conducts RDI missions with autonomy under limited oversight, supporting the development, deployment and exploitation of a 5G-enabled edge computing infrastructure on the Belval campus to enable smart city solutions.
- Contributes to the implementation of practical use cases, such as mobility analytics, crowd management, and sustainable waste solutions, as part of a collaborative living lab.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to facilitate knowledge exchange and enhance LIST’s impact in intelligent connectivity, distributed systems, and urban data-driven innovation.
- Actively contributes to securing new funding through the preparation of project proposals, with a view to support the growth of research initiatives in edge computing and anticipated developments in 6G within LIST.
- Supervises or co-supervises young scientists/engineers, helping them to be more effective and successful in their job. Coordinates the work of other scientists or engineers involved in their projects.
- Writes papers, publications, and scientific reports. Publishes in peer-reviewed journals. Reviews the scientific production of less experienced scientists.

Education
- PhD + at least 2 years of experience in 5G/6G RDI activities.
Technical expertise required
- Background in 5G/6G edge computing and networking, with hands-on experience in deploying and testing infrastructure in practical, real-world settings.
- Knowledge of smart city applications and their integration with advanced connectivity systems.
- Proven experience with RDI projects, including familiarity with proposal development and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
Soft skills
- Effective project management and organizational abilities to coordinate across complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within diverse teams and with external partners.
- Strategic thinking with an interest in identifying and contributing to new research opportunities.
Language skills
- Fluent English is a requirement. French, German or Luxembourgish is an advantage.
