How will you contribute?
Within the SMAT (Smart Materials) Unit, you will lead a new research group on modelling of functional materials. As part of this role, you will:
- Define the group goals in alignment with the unit strategy, in coordination with the Head of Smart Materials Unit. Keep team’s activity aligned to unit strategic roadmaps.
- Manage the group’s budget; forecast, implement, and follow-up its execution.
- Manage the group’s project portfolio ensuring a balanced mix of competitive/industry funded projects and a healthy cycle of new/ongoing/to-be-ended projects. Provide primary leadership to the submission and execution of RDI project.
- Build collaborative relationships with the group's project partners and stakeholders and leverage these relationships to promote the group's projects and initiatives.
- Make decisions considering various factors, risks, and impact. Promote and/or contribute to the improvement of RDI methods, processes, or tools to enhance the group’s performance.
- Guide the group in reaching objectives and recognize effort and success. Act when conflicts appear.
- Be primary responsible for talent management processes for your group (i.e., recruitment, training, performance evaluation, promotions, exits, etc.). Promote and monitor the development of the team's competencies and careers in line with the current and future needs of the group and the unit.
- Ensure your team respects LIST values, ethical standards, research integrity, and internal rules.
- Ensure that the work environment of your team remains safe and healthy.
- Communicate and facilitate understanding of organizational objectives, acting as a bridge between senior management and team members.
- Lead and foster world-class research activities in the domain of computational materials science, aligned with the priorities of the Smart Materials Unit and LIST.

Educational Background
- PhD in computational materials science, condensed matter physics or a related discipline
Experience and skills
- Strong track record acquiring and executing research projects, both basic and applied
- Demonstrated multi-project management abilities, with skill in managing budgets and resources
- Proven leadership and team management experience with a track record in guiding skilled researchers
- Experience in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and promoting innovation within teams
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with external partners and stakeholders, networking
- Strong expertise in the relevant area of computational materials science and atomistic simulations, with an understanding of adjacent fields and experimental activities in the Smart Materials Unit and LIST
Language skills
- Professional proficiency in both written and spoken English is mandatory
