This opportunity is open exclusively to active-duty service members who are eligible for the DOW SkillBridge Program.


Participants will complete an 8‑week On‑the‑Job Training (OJT) program, gaining hands‑on experience across multiple roles within the Security Department. This program is designed to provide real‑world exposure, professional development, and a pathway to explore potential post‑service career opportunities.


The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, associates, and property through proactive patrol, emergency response, and professional engagement.


  • Conducts internal and external mobile patrols of assigned facilities, including high-risk areas such as the Emergency Department, to deter criminal activity, identify safety hazards, and respond to incidents.
  • Respond to behavioral and medical emergencies, including combative or aggressive individuals, utilizing verbal de-escalation techniques and approved crisis intervention methods.
  • Monitoring entrances and exits, enforcing access control procedures, conducting foot and vehicle patrols, operating surveillance and communication systems, and coordinating with law enforcement or fire personnel when necessary.
  • Provide safety escorts, conduct patient watches, assist with transports (including to the morgue), and ensure compliance with hospital policies and post orders.
  • This position requires strong situational awareness, sound judgment, effective communication skills, and the physical ability to work in a high-stress, fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Officers must maintain required certifications (CPR/AED) and complete crisis prevention training, demonstrating professionalism, resilience, and a commitment to safety at all times.

Work Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must currently be an active service member and eligible to participate in the DOW SkillBridge Program
  • Certification: At least one (1) of the following certifications within thirty (30) days of start date.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course OR
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card.
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Expected completion of Crisis Prevention Training within first 90 days.
  • Physical ability to deal with or subdue mental health patients in crisis.
  • Must be willing to carry out tasks that may require entering the hospital morgue and the roof-top helipad.
  • Ability to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors.
  • Ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Active listening skills with ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively.
  • Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Maintain required certifications, licensing, and training to achieve professional
  • competency as appropriate for the position.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.
  • May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
  • May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.
  • May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
  • May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise.
  • May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
