Introduction:
About us
We are an award winning, national $16B public offer industry fund focused on the education and community sectors. Working for NGS Super means being part of something bigger and working to make a difference to our members and their financial future.
Our people are key to our success, and as we expand, we’re committed to finding and retaining the right talent to take on the journey. As well as a flexible and fun workplace, we offer competitive benefits including additional leave entitlements, personal & professional development and health & wellbeing programs.
The Role
The Security Operations Manager leads day-to-day security operations, including SOC oversight, incident response, and cyber resilience, to protect NGS Super’s technology environment and support reliable, secure services for members. Working across Information Security, Engineering, and Technology Operations, the role ensures strong, practical security controls are embedded and effectively executed within an APRA-regulated environment.
What you’ll do
- Lead day-to-day cyber security operations, including oversight of the outsourced SOC and coordination with technology teams and managed service providers.
- Coordinate and support security incident response across SOC, engineering and operations teams, including investigation, containment, remediation and continuous improvement.
- Strengthen cyber and operational resilience through playbooks, testing, scenario planning and post-incident reviews.
- Embed security monitoring, incident and change management into operational tools and workflows.
- Partner with engineering and operations teams to embed secure-by-design and practical, sustainable security controls into day-to-day operations.
- Coordinate vulnerability and technical risk management, prioritising issues based on business criticality and threat context.
- Monitor emerging threats and industry trends to proactively improve security operations.
- Conduct information security and third-party risk assessments and support compliance with APRA CPS 234 and CPS 230.
- Act as a trusted, pragmatic security advisor, enabling secure outcomes rather than acting as a gatekeeper.
We are looking for someone who brings fresh experience and thinking to the superannuation industry to help drive our growth journey. You will bring the following key skills:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity, with strong exposure to security operations or incident response.
- Practical experience working with engineering and technology operations teams.
- Sound knowledge of information security technologies, such as firewalls, DLP, encryption, and endpoint security.
- Sound knowledge of cloud security principles and technologies, preferably Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and AWS environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex security issues, recommend effective solutions, and translate security requirements into practical operational guidance.
- Good time management skills with the ability to timebox deliverables to ensure effective implementations.
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation.
- Commitment to professional development and continuous learning to stay current with industry trends and best practices.
- Knowledge of information security frameworks, principles, and standards, such as NIST CSF and CPS 234.
- Experience managing or overseeing third-party service providers, such as outsourced SOC or MSSP services.
- Experience in the financial services sector or regulated environments.
- Bachelor's degree in information security, computer science, or a related field.
- Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA.
We are a super fund that has an exceptional work culture, provides a diverse offering in developing our people and you can be a part of it while earning an attractive remuneration package!
Please note that to be eligible for this role, you are required to have permanent Australian working rights and residency.
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to creating a workplace that values diversity, equity, and respect for all individuals.
