Job Description
The Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and Corporate Security (SAA-CS) is currently looking to staff a Security Project Officer (SPO) position.
The SPO is accountable for managing and coordinating security operations for construction and refurbishment sub-projects, and other internal security projects for the Corporate Security Office (CSO), from planning, to close-out, in accordance with the House Administration project management practices and processes supporting the Corporate Security Office.
The SPO coordinates operations to assist the Security Program Manager (SPM) with day-to-day project management, design, security operations, data analysis, security screenings, and development of policy and operational maintenance plans.
Contributions to the team:
- Leverage advanced analysis techniques to produce action items.
- Perform site inspections and gather relevant data.
- Design and test for hardware/software projects.
Requirements of the role:
The role requires that the incumbent work onsite in our downtown Ottawa office, and support operational requirements with flexible hours and occasional overtime. Hours of operations may vary between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday to Friday, with the requirement to work evenings occasionally. The incumbent could be subject to travel throughout Canada.
Operational requirements expose the incumbent to occasionally lift weights up to 50lbs and climbing ladders. Formal training will be provided.
Candidates must be able to obtain a Top Secret or Secret clearance (Standard on Security Screening- Canada.ca).
Other mandatory requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work on a construction site.
- Ability to work in tight spaces.
- Ability to work at short notice.

Qualifications
Education :
- Successful completion of post-secondary education with a focus on the following: engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, telecommunications engineering, computer science, physics, optical systems.
Experiences :
- Experience in security project coordination;
- Experience in coordinating multiple and conflicting requirements and priorities, and working with subject matter experts in the fields of architecture, engineering, security, construction and procurement;
- Experience in troubleshooting software, hardware and client requests, asking the right questions to clarify needs;
- Experience in making recommendations to senior management, and in communicating idea requirements and expectations clearly.
Assets :
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology or other telecommunications relevant fields;
- Experience or formal training in nondestructive testing including Thermography, X-Ray, Ultrasound testing.
- Experience or formal training in wireless communications, signal processing, telecommunications (focus on emerging technologies, 802.11bf, 6G, etc.).
- Experience or formal training in ML, AI, Software, and Networking.
