Senior Advisor Privacy

Are you passionate about privacy and safeguarding personal information? The Electoral Commission is seeking an experienced Senior Privacy Advisor to lead our privacy program and ensure compliance with privacy legislation and best practices.

You will provide expert advice on privacy matters, lead the development and implementation of privacy frameworks, and foster a culture of privacy awareness across the Commission. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, you'll play a key part in ensuring trust and integrity in our operations.

This is a grade 18 role, with a salary band of $124,061-$137,845.

Ng Kawenga | Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain privacy policies, frameworks, and processes in line with legislative requirements.
• Provide expert advice and guidance to teams on privacy issues, including privacy impact assessments and data-sharing agreements.
• Monitor compliance with the Privacy Act 2020 and other relevant legislation and address any breaches or concerns.
• Lead organisation-wide privacy training and awareness initiatives.
• Engage with external agencies and stakeholders to ensure alignment with best practices.
• Support incident response and risk management related to privacy and data protection.
• Stay updated on privacy law developments and emerging trends, ensuring the Commission remains at the forefront of privacy standards.

Mohou ake | About You

You are an experienced privacy professional with a strong understanding of privacy legislation and a proven track record of embedding privacy best practices within organisations. You're an excellent communicator, capable of navigating complex issues and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

• Expertise in privacy legislation, including the Privacy Act 2020, and knowledge of international privacy standards.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing privacy frameworks and policies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks and deliver practical solutions.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience presenting to senior leadership.
• A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and applying its principles in your work.
• Experience working in fast-paced, high-stakes environments, ideally within public service or a similar field.
