The Controls Performance team is a centre of excellence within the Risk division. The purpose of the team is to provide assurance to management over controls within BNZ. Specifically, the team is tasked is to test, assess and optimise controls with the bank and to provide insights to management on areas of strength and uplift opportunities. The team has a close working relationship with divisional risk partners (within the Risk division) and our customers (BNZ leaders who own or operate controls) right across the bank.

The team sits within the Risk division, which is responsible for setting BNZ's risk appetite, providing a foundation for effective risk management and promoting an effective risk culture across BNZ.

We support learning and development on both risk and what staff do across the bank which can lead to career progression. Other benefits include generous leave allowance, banking benefits health insurance and flexible working.

This is an Auckland based role. It is a hybrid role with three days in the office and two days where you can work flexibly.

We sat down with the People Leader (who you would report to) and they told us the following about the role:

What are 5 day-to-day tasks the person in this role will complete?

Meeting with stakeholders across the bank to learn about their processes and controls.
Assessing processes and evidence against prescribed criteria and understanding how they mitigate BNZ’s enterprise risk profile.
Working collaboratively with divisional risk partners to share outcomes of testing.
Using team workpapers and GRACE, our BNZ risk management tool, to record workings and assessments.
Working with teammates and risk leaders to share learnings and recommendations.

What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?

Providing controls testing assurance and expertise to colleagues, having an opportunity to learn about key processes across the bank- what they are and how they work, getting to work with a wide range of different colleagues across the bank every week and ultimately be part of a team that is focussed on safeguarding the bank's reputation.

What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity?

There will be lots to learn about risk management practices, assurance testing methodology, and forming new working relationships with lots of divisional risk partners and BNZ staff across the bank.

What is your favourite thing about working for BNZ?

My favourite thing about working for BNZ is our people. I love our collaborative and inclusive environment, and the opportunities I've had to develop and grow our team members. It's a great place to work!

Why did the last person leave this role?

Offered a Manager level role in a divisional risk partner team. It was fantastic success for the team member and for our team as it demonstrates the skills learnt in Controls Performance are in high demand.
