Description:
Key Responsibilities and Functions

Arborist Duties

Maintenance of trees in parks and gardens, recreation reserves, town streetscapes and roadsides where applicable.
Ensure that all maintenance work undertaken complies with Council’s specified standards including powerline clearance of trees.
Oversee trainee in tree pruning or tree related matters
Investigate and carry out customer request relating to arboriculture matters and decide on action to be taken and ensure action is undertaken as a matter of urgency
Provide advice to ratepayers in arboriculture matters
Provide assistance and advice to Team Leader - Arboriculture
Keep up to date with developments, legislation and regulations relating to all arboriculture and horticultural matters
Ensure that all daily work activities (planned and unplanned) are recorded and forwarded to Team Leader Arboriculture

​​​​​​​General Duties

Participate in knowledge / skills development training or OHS training as directed.
Provide advice to Team Leader and /or Superintendent Parks, Fleet and Building Maintenance on arboriculture matters.
The maintenance of strict confidentiality in any matter which may affect Council’s ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers and/or contractor.
Report daily, any observed damage to Council assets.
Work in other Council works crews as directed
Participate in Council’s after hours emergency call out phone and standby duty roster and public convenience cleaning roster
Erection and maintenance of traffic control devices
Ensure that daily routine maintenance on assigned plant & equipment is carried out: record and report any faults
Undertake minor repairs to assigned plant and equipment
Ensure that all assigned plant and equipment is returned to a depot or otherwise securely stored at the end of shift

This role comes with a commuter use vehicle.

Skills and Experiences:
To Apply for this role, please include a cover letter addressing the following Key Selection Criteria:

Formal qualification in Arboriculture at Certificate III or above or extensive experience in a similar position
High level of arboriculture knowledge
High level of horticulture knowledge
Ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with complaints and enquiries
A sound knowledge of legislation and standards associated with the position

Essential qualifications and experience

A relevant formal qualification in Arboriculture at Certificate III level or above with relevant experience.
Chainsaw, Pole saw & Tree Felling
Heavy Rigid Truck License
Construction Induction Card

Desirable qualifications and experience

First Aid/CPR
Traffice control
Chemical Handlers
Spotters
Load and Unload Goods/Cargo
Skid steer
Fire Ground Training
Environment Management Roadside
Working with Heights
Backhoe Loader
