Tailor Your Resume for this Job
We are seeking a seasoned, high-performing Senior B2B Energy Sales Consultant to drive market share growth in our commercial gas and electricity portfolio across Alberta. This is not an entry-level position; we are looking for a commercial energy expert who understands the unique mechanics of the Alberta deregulated market and can confidently consult with Small and Mid-Sized Businesses (SMB) to mid-market commercial clients.
The ideal candidate brings a proven track record of analyzing commercial utility profiles, structures competitive fixed-rate or index-based contracts, and closes long-term, high-volume agreements.
Key Responsibilities
- Pipeline Generation: Proactively prospect, cold call, and network to secure new B2B accounts across diverse SMB sectors (manufacturing, commercial real estate, retail, agriculture, and hospitality).
- Energy Profile Analysis: Collect and analyze historical consumption data (Interval Data, Site IDs, and wire service statements from ENMAX, ATCO, EPCOR, etc.) to evaluate usage patterns.
- Custom Structuring: Develop and present tailored commodity strategies, embedding appropriate market margins (adders/uplifts) to maximize margin while delivering clear value to the client.
- Contract Negotiation: Navigate complex buying structures to secure multi-year fixed or hybrid contracts (2–5 year terms) with C-suite executives, business owners, and procurement managers.
- Portfolio Retention: Manage and nurture won accounts, proactively tracking contract expiry dates to execute seamless renewals and mitigate portfolio churn.
Qualifications & Experience Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of direct experience in the Alberta deregulated retail energy market (electricity and natural gas). Applications without direct commercial energy sales experience will not be considered.
- Market Literacy: Deep technical knowledge of the Alberta utility landscape, including an understanding of pool price volatility, transmission/distribution riders, AUC regulations, and wire service operators.
- Track Record: Documented success of meeting or exceeding volume quotas (measured in annual/monthly kWh and GJ contracted).
- Analytical Skills: Strong proficiency in reading complex commercial utility bills, calculating load factors, and building financial comparisons.
- Communication: Exceptional negotiation skills with a polished, consultative approach to B2B selling.
- Mobility: Valid Alberta driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for local client site visits.
What We Offer (Compensation & Benefits)
- Stable Foundation: Competitive base salary ($55,000 – $65,000 CAD) commensurate with industry experience.
- Aggressive Commission Structure: Uncapped per-unit commission based on total contract volume (paid monthly with aggressive multi-year multipliers for 3- and 5-year terms).
- Performance Accelerators: Retroactive tier bumps for hitting monthly volume milestones (e.g., clearing >500k kWh thresholds).
- Portfolio Protection: Commission sharing on successful account renewals to reward long-term relationship management.
- Tools for Success: Car allowance/mileage reimbursement, company laptop, and access to proprietary market pricing engines.
- Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision package.
