The Christian Care Trust runs Grace House, a small Christian care home in North London. We are passionate about offering excellent person-centred care to people in Barnet.

Job Summary
The Senior Carer is responsible to the Registered Manager for the delivery of safe and high-quality care for Grace House residents which meets CQC regulatory requirements.
This person demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement and ensures an outcome-focused, person-centred approach to care.
The Senior Carer role is critical to ensuring successful day-to-day management and care delivery at Grace House. Senior Carers support the highest standards of performance, enabling residents to have a vibrant and fulfilling life in the home.
As well as providing care, Senior Carers may coordinate and supervise the work of care and other staff on shift. Senior Carers are also responsible for the general supervision of the home in the absence of the management at the home.
Job Purpose
To provide care and support which preserves the physical, mental and spiritual comfort of residents, and ensures the highest levels of safety.
To be accountable for the quality of the Grace House care service delivered to residents on shifts led by the Senior Carer.
To be respectful of the individuality of residents and colleagues and to act as an ambassador for Grace House and the Christian Care Trust, demonstrating both a kind and professional manner in all areas of work.
To be committed to providing excellent services for all residents including actively seeking ways of making improvements both for residents, staff and the home as a whole.
Responsibilities and Duties
Care and Support
To carry out all activities relating to a residents’ physical, personal, emotional, spiritual and social wellbeing, as outlined in the resident’s Care Plan, using a person-centred approach. To work with the resident, his / her relatives and other stakeholders. The Senior Carer will have a clear understanding of best practices and will be sensitive to the care needs of anyone living at the home.
Care Planning
To adopt both individual and collective responsibility in the implementation, monitoring and review of care plans, ensuring these reflect personal needs, wishes and aspirations of the resident.
To review and monitor the well-being of residents and identify where changes may be required in the care provided, ensuring these are captured in the care plan as soon as these are identified, and are up to date across all care planning documentation. To report any changes or matters of concern to the Registered Manager, and to ensure any changes to the care plan are communicated to the resident / relatives and colleagues.
To ensure resident choice and independence is respected and consistently encouraged through a positive approach to risk, and effective risk assessment and management. This includes involving the resident and all relevant parties, ensuring appropriate processes are undertaken and associated records are created and maintained.
To record, maintain and store any information on residents and any aspect of their care and support safely and securely. To participate in the review of care plans ensuring these are planned to reflect the needs, preferences and aspirations detailed at the outset of a resident’s placement.
Care Delivery
To contribute and support the effective management of the home by the direct delivery of care.
To actively participate and supervise in the delivery of care and support to residents ensuring their physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs are met and reflecting the mission and values of the organisation.
To respond to the immediate medical needs of residents, and together with care staff to be responsible for continual monitoring of each resident’s health needs by ensuring access to healthcare professionals and services, and monitoring of health-related care assessments and documentation. This includes liaison with residents, relatives, relevant internal and external counterparties, and the Registered Manager.
To support the management of effective systems for the ordering, administration and recording of prescribed medications for residents. To administer directly and to observe care staff administration, ensuring Grace House’s medication policy and procedures are adhered to.
To have a solid understanding of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and to ensure MCA assessments and associated procedures reflect the principles of the Act, regulatory needs, and best practices. To ensure team members have an awareness of MCA and can contribute to effective MCA assessments within the parameters of their role
To ensure that each resident is encouraged to actively participate within their environment and is given help and encouragement to maintain contact with relatives and friends and the local community. To continue the principle of involvement in the home by providing mental and physical stimulation in everyday activities of living, and in participating and supporting staff to engage in social and recreational activities in and out of the home.
Staff Supervision and Personal Development
To attend the required training sessions / courses necessary for the role of Senior Carer.
To attend and contribute to staff meetings, meetings with manager and external stakeholders such as GPs and district nurses.
Health and Safety
To assist the Registered Manager in providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for staff, residents and visitors by ensuring that all activities are carried out safely.
To comply with Infection Control, Health and Safety, and Fire Regulations, and to support staff within the home to also comply with these regulations.
Advise immediately any defects in equipment used for the care and safety of service users, relatives, visitors as well as staff health and safety.
General
The Senior Carer will on occasion have access to confidential information concerning residents, staff and the organisation. It is a requirement that confidentiality is strictly maintained as required under Grace House’s policies and procedures and in relation to the General Data Protection Regulations.
The Senior Carer must work in adherence with Christian Care Trust policies and procedures, and ensure they are conversant with and have received training as necessary. They should ensure all administrative policies and procedures are met.
All Grace House staff are bound by the employment principles laid out in the Employee Handbook.
Maintain good working relations with colleagues at all times.
Keep Registered Manager informed of any concerns or changes in the home in relation to both residents and staff which could affect the safe service or smooth operation of the home.
Qualifications
NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care
Terms
Senior Carers may work on a full-time or part-time basis. Pension contributions are made through NEST.

Pay: £14.10 per hour
