Senior Controller – Capacity Funding & Delivery

We are building talented teams that tackle real world challenges every day and help us to achieve our goal to prepare the grid to carry up to 80% of Ireland’s electricity from renewable sources.

We are proud to be a certified Great Place to Work, recognised for our culture built on trust, collaboration and inclusion. At EirGrid you will find supportive teams, opportunities to grow and meaningful work. We also offer secure employment with a range of flexible and family friendly working policies to support your life and wellbeing. If you are ready to make an impact and grow your career in a purpose-led organisation, your journey starts here.

The Opportunity

The Operations Directorate is at the heart of Ireland’s electricity system, bringing together expert professionals from engineering and commercial backgrounds. We’re central to delivering a secure, reliable, and sustainable power system and wholesale electricity market for the island of Ireland — and above all, ensuring the lights stay on.

Our mission is clear: support Ireland’s transition to 80% renewable electricity by 2030 and net zero by 2050. We manage real-time system and market operations, ensure financial settlement excellence, and engage directly with market participants. Through continuous improvement and innovation, we’re shaping a resilient, future-ready energy system that meets the evolving needs of all electricity users.

The Capacity Funding & Delivery team runs the auctions that secure the long-term capacity needed to keep the lights on and support Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon future, in line with the Climate Action Plan.

As Senior Controller, you’ll play a key role in supporting the Capacity Funding and Delivery team by preparing and analysing information to support business processes and procedures for the Capacity Market and the Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS).

You’ll also be responsible for developing and operating business processes within your designated area of the Capacity Funding and Delivery team. This includes planning and co‑ordinating work and projects to a high standard and within the timelines set out in the Grid Code, Trading and Settlement Codes, SEMOpx rules, Capacity Market Rules, and RESS Terms and Conditions.

As a subject matter expert, the Senior Controller reviews and approves documents produced by Controllers in line with agreed processes and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Risk Management and Escalation: Identify operational risks and issues and propose practical solutions, escalating complex matters to the Manager and Head of Function as appropriate.
  • Market Participant Support and Dispute Resolution: Resolve general customer queries within defined KPIs, acting as second‑line support where required. Co‑ordinate the resolution of disputes in line with relevant market codes and procedures.
  • Systems, Testing and Change Management: Conduct planned technical testing of internal systems following system changes. Co‑ordinate system testing and change management activities with IT to support end users.
  • Governance, Records and Audit: Maintain records to a high standard and support the team’s contributions to internal and external audits.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise regularly with key stakeholders, including Suppliers, Generators, Regulators, Interconnector Administrators and Government Departments, maintaining a high level of customer service at all times.
  • Reporting and Data Presentation: Produce a range of internal and external reports on market data. Present market data to internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Team Capability Development: Co‑ordinate and plan colleague training and provide ongoing support to Controllers on key deliverables.

About You
  • You hold a third‑level qualification in Business, IT, Finance or a related discipline, with 4+ years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience of co‑ordinating and overseeing the delivery of key tasks within a team environment.
  • Proven track record of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good time management and co‑ordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective communicator, capable of conveying information and ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a high standard of accuracy in work outputs.
  • Comfortable presenting to large groups,
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Familiarity with Ireland’s electricity market (I‑SEM), Capacity Market, RESS, DCEE policy context, and broader EU state‑aid energy policies is desirable.
