Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

We are inviting applications for a senior fellowship position in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at Auckland City Hospital New Zealand!

Positioned in the centre of one of the world’s most desirable city in New Zealand, the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at Auckland City Hospital is a stand-alone Intensive Care facility with staffing for 18 ICU and 8 HDU beds. We provide intensive care to patients following all cardiothoracic and vascular surgery including heart and lung transplantation. Complex valvular surgery is common given the region’s high incidence of rheumatic heart disease.

We also manage patients with cardiogenic shock and pulmonary embolism. Additionally, we provide a national ECMO service to adults, including provision of an ECMO retrieval team.

There are around 2200 ICU admissions and 800 HDU admissions per year. The unit has accreditation for training from the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM). An active program in transoesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography exists on the CVICU.
