The European Vaccine Initiatives(EVI) is a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to accelerating the development of effective, affordable vaccines for global health, including poverty-related and emerging infectious diseases.

Based in Heidelberg, Germany, EVI operates with a dynamic, multicultural team of approximately 30 scientists, project managers, and support staff. We collaborate internationally with academic institutions, public health authorities, and industry partners.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Financial Manager to lead our accounting activities. This is a key position for a proactive finance professional who is motivated to contribute to impactful, mission-driven work.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & ERP Operations

• Oversee day-to-day accounting tasks, month-end closings, and reconciliations using SAP Business ByDesign.
• Manage invoice processing, payments, and internal transfers with appropriate documentation.
• Prepare project-level accounts and audit-ready materials for internal/external audits.
• Support financial compliance and reporting to tax and regulatory authorities in Germany and internationally.
• Handle income/VAT-related accounting in a multi-national project environment.

Financial Management & Process Development

• Lead optimization of financial workflows and administrative processes.
• Maintain procedures for documentation, reimbursement, and insurance.
• Support cost tracking and financial reporting for grant-funded projects.
• Contribute to asset and inventory management processes.

Office & Administrative Support

• Ensure smooth financial operations with suppliers, insurance providers, and service contractors.
• Support facility coordination and administrative needs of the office.
• Assist management with contract workflows and financial documentation.

Essential Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (BSc/MSc or equivalent).
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in financial roles, preferably including Finance Manager or Controller positions.
• Strong command of accounting standards, payroll, and financial reporting.
• Hands-on experience with SAP Business ByDesign / HANA or other SAP ERP systems.
• Proficiency in VAT compliance in an international context.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail, strong ethics, and solution-oriented mindset.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with non-profit organisations
• Knowledge about grant reporting to public and private (charity) funders
• Knowledge of German language
