Senior Graphic Designer

PURPOSE OF ROLE
This is an exciting opportunity to join Dunns Food and Drinks developing Marketing team to promote the service we offer to existing and target customers.

You will be responsible for establishing and building a new internal Design function. You will be the face of the new function and will be required to establish optimal ways of working with the Marketing team (2) and key stakeholders.

Having a flair for creative design and brand awareness is key for this role. You will help bring the Dunns ‘one stop shop’ to life through your creative skills.

The Graphic Designer will originate effective and appropriate design solutions for a variety of Dunns Food and Drinks print publications and digital media platforms. The post holder will provide design advice, support and creative design solutions for the organisation’s campaigns, publications and digital outputs. The role will work closely with the Marketing team and will include close working with and managing of design, print and photographic agencies.

This post will work collaboratively with stakeholders across the company to develop and deliver high quality creative content as well as generating concepts and ideas for all of our Marketing and campaign work.

The post will sit alongside the Marketing Team; instrumental for the continual shaping and evolving the organisation’s messaging, in collaboration with colleagues across all departments to ensure the company messaging remains representative of what products and service are currently being delivered. The company has multiple platforms over which its message needs to be continually freshened and this role, along with support from the Marketing team, will be key in making sure its messages are represented in line with the organisation’s brand(s) and tone-of-voice.

The role will also see you engage with Dunns staff from across both our head office team and local Territory Sales Managers across the country, supporting and advising on best practice to ultimately raise awareness of the service provided by the company.

You will be comfortable and excel in working in a fast-paced environment and confident in managing conflicting deadlines.

There will be no such thing as a typical day, with attention diverted from standard posters and promotional brochures to the design of brand new campaigns. Therefore the person who applies for this post must be able to confidently work autonomously and to tight deadlines without compromise on quality assurance of content.

Specific Responsibilities

  • To originate effective and appropriate design solutions for a variety of Dunns Food and Drinks printed publications and digital media.
  • To work closely with the Marketing team, along with key managers from other departments to deliver effective design solutions to support their work
  • To manage, when required, the outsourcing of work to design, print and photographic agencies.
  • To provide design advice, support and print solution suggestions to the Marketing team for Dunns Food and Drinks publications
  • Review and develop brand guidelines and assets for the company and our customers
  • To ensure that the design solutions are of the highest quality, adhere and are consistent to guidelines and are cost-effective.
  • To compile a bank of designed images to be used across the organisation. This includes sourcing opportunities to photograph by building relationships in our delivered areas liaising with photographers and making sure we have all relevant permissions,
  • To help support and maintain a succinct briefing process for creative outputs.
  • To create original quality design concepts and solutions, as per brief, including typographic, photographic and illustrative elements
  • To develop concepts from presentation to delivery, including page layout, typesetting, photography (including art direction), image and colour correction, proofing etc
  • To prepare final artwork and liaise with printers
  • To prepare artwork for digital platforms
  • To help develop and manage an organisation photo brank
  • To be fully involved in on-going administration of projects from briefing to final artwork and post campaign analysis
  • To monitor, review and prioritise the status of design projects, ensuring that production schedules are met and costs kept within budget
  • Provide professional advice and support on all design-related matters to colleagues and relevant external partners
  • To contribute to the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting process for the department and to keep accurate records of design projects
  • To maintain skills of, knowledge of and generally keep up-to-date with graphic and technical developments within the industry
  • Identify opportunities for future development
  • To create and maintain effective communication channels and processes that keep everyone informed, involved and engaged in the ongoing process of Dunn’s Marketing and design function, whilst ensuring a balance is maintained with regards to representing all organisational priorities
  • Design new brands, products and packaging
  • Design and print manage printed sales tools & POS
  • Assist with tenders and presentations
  • Continuously update digital assets, ensuring they are impactful and unique
  • Maintain a motivated, productive and effective design function

About You

  • Educated to a degree / college level in graphic design
  • Highers or equivalent required
  • At least 3 years of experience in a commercial or agency, office-based graphic design role
  • A portfolio of design work covering printed and digital sales tools, POS, packaging, 3D renders and brand development work
  • A passion for design, branding, packaging, print materials and digital marketing
  • Competent in key design software including all Microsoft Office packages and design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AfterEffects) – additional software competencies may be useful
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly, lead and influence
  • Ability to present concepts with passion and energy
  • Ability to interpret and deliver against briefs
  • Sound commercial awareness
  • Strong time management and organisational skills
  • Able to multitask and work to multiple deadlines

Conditions

  • Standard Hours: 9.00-17:30, includes ½ hour for lunch
  • 28 days annual leave
  • Salary Scale: £20-30k depending on experience
  • Staff discounts
