Tamaki Makaurau Intelligence Team supports Police leaders and officers to prevent crime and harm through exceptional policing. Our mahi is used to inform deployment of resources, understand the criminal environment and crime problems, and facilitate evidence-based action and prevention.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Intelligence Analyst to join our team based in Piki Ki Te Ao, Otahuhu. This position would suit an experienced Intelligence professional wanting to work in a dynamic operational environment and support the development of Intelligence capability across the team.

As a Senior Intelligence Analyst, you will demonstrate professional curiosity and adaptive approaches to using a range of analytic tools and methodologies to provide insight and foresight on a range of complex problems and issues. You will use your advanced critical thinking and team-focused approach to coach others on best practice Intelligence tradecraft, to support team development and foster a positive and productive team culture.

Your engagement in your own professional development will see you to continue to develop your knowledge of policing and Intelligence. Your willingness to get out and talk to people, and critically and thoughtfully engage with what you find, will enhance your understanding of the required Intelligence contribution to ensure positive outcomes for Tamaki Makaurau.

Key Accountabilities

  • Proactively identify emerging or escalating trends in crime, crashes, and community reassurance. Demonstrate strong critical thinking and apply analytical techniques to interpret information and data.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop a high standard of written reports/presentations and provide clear and concise verbal briefings appropriate to a range of audiences.
  • Lead and collaborate projects and group analysis.
  • Effectively manage competing priorities and demands to maintain quality of work under strict timeframes.
  • Develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external).
  • Work with limited supervision on complex analytical problems.
  • Provide technical guidance in Intelligence analysis tools and coach junior members of the team to develop their Intelligence tradecraft.
  • Lead by example with a committed, positive attitude towards teamwork and professional development.
  • Provide regular peer review and project coaching.
  • Assist in leading the development of people, products and processes.
  • Champion diverse worldviews, different perspectives, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, identifying opportunities to reflect these in Intelligence products.

Whakaritenga motuhake | Special requirements

  • Successful applicants must reside in Auckland or must be willing to relocate.
  • Hold a full driver license or be able to complete early in employment.
  • Hold a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • You may occasionally be required to work outside of set work hours and alternative locations for operational reasons. Shift work may be required to meet operational demand.
  • These roles are office based within the specified location.

This role is set at Individual Contributor level, this means your key purpose is "to deliver or enable others to deliver Our Business".

Security Clearance Requirements

To be eligible for the Police National Headquarters roles, you must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance.

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:

NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or:

  • A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
  • A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu a-tau | Salary

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $102,808.00 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
