Location: Hybrid – 2/3 days week in Naas Co Kildare

Job Role: The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining highly available secure and scalable infrastructure environments. This role provides advanced technical leadership, overseas major infrastructure projects, focuses on architecture, scalability and automation. This role also ensures the reliability and performance of core systems and services. The Senior Systems Engineer will mentor junior team members and collaborates cross-functionally to deliver robust technology solutions that support organisational goals. This role also provides support in ensuring KTL continues to be ISO 27001 accredited.

Role Requirements:

· Design and implement enterprise-grade infrastructure solutions across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.

· Lead the evaluation and selection of new technologies, platforms, and tools.

· Develop system architecture diagrams, technical documentation, and operational standards.

· Manage and optimize servers, storage, virtualization platforms, and networking components including WiFi connectivity.

· Oversee identity and access management, directory services, and security compliance.

· Implement automation and infrastructure‑as‑code to improve efficiency and consistency.

· Architect, deploy, and maintain cloud workloads (Azure, AWS, or other platforms depending on environment).

· Implement cloud governance, security baselines, automation pipelines, and cost‑optimization strategies.

· Migrate existing systems and applications to cloud or hybrid architectures as needed.

· Ensure availability, backup/restore capability, and disaster recovery readiness of all critical systems.

· Monitor performance and proactively resolve capacity and reliability issues.

· Serve as Tier 3 escalation point for complex technical incidents.

· Implement and maintain system hardening, vulnerability management, and patching strategies.

· Collaborate with security teams to enforce governance, risk management, and compliance processes.

· Conduct regular audits, reviews, and documentation of system configurations.

· Mentor and guide junior engineers and support staff.

· Lead cross-functional technical projects and coordinate with stakeholders across IT and business teams.

· Communicate complex technical issues clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Skills & Experience:

· Demonstrated experience and success in the management and deployment of desktop OS and applications using SCCM, InTune or MDT

· Advanced understanding of Azure Cloud Services architecture and infrastructure

· Knowledge of administering and managing on-premise and/or cloud-based infrastructure environments

· Experience with Network configuration and administration (MPLS or SD-WAN)

· Script automation with PowerShell

· Knowledge of monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios or ManageEngine

· 3-5 years’ experience working in an IT team environment supporting an organisation’s IT infrastructure, network and cyber security

· Experience in delivering IT projects from either an Infrastructure, Systems or Security perspective.

· Knowledge with project delivery, IT roadmaps and governance.

· Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems (Win 10/11) and supporting technologies

· Previous experience with delivery ISO 27001 accreditation to an organisation

· The ability to adapt to changing business needs.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong problem-solving abilities and a calm under pressure mindset

Required Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

· 5 - 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure operations, or similar roles.

· Strong expertise in Windows and/or Linux server administration.

· Experience with ITSM tools such as JIRA, ManageEngine, Zendesk, Freshworks etc…

· Deep experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V).

· Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewalls).

· Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services.

· Proven ability to script or automate tasks (PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.).

· Experience implementing secure and compliant infrastructure solutions.

Desirable Requirements:

· Industry certifications (e.g., Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Solutions Architect, VMware VCP, Cisco CCNP).

· Experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code (ARM/Bicep, Terraform, Ansible).

· Experience with CI/CD pipelines & DevOps & ITIL practices.

· Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools (e.g. Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana).

· Strong documentation and process development skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: €80,000.00-€85,000.00 per year
