Company Summary & Role Overview
Peter Majo Home & Garden Landscaping is a premier regional landscape contractor specializing in custom design, high-end hardscape and softscape installations, and meticulous ongoing property maintenance. We are seeking an experienced, highly skilled Landscape Technician to join our growing operations. The ideal candidates will be fully experienced in executing modern layout low-voltage landscape lighting, build structural hardscapes, and confidently supervise and coordinate a small crew of field labourers to meet strict corporate and client standards.
Key Responsibilities
· Diagnostics & Retrofitting: Routinely overhaul, assess, and repair existing, aged strata irrigation grids; trace low-voltage 24V field wiring faults, efficiently service two-wire decoder systems, install master valves, and assemble professional-grade heavy-duty manifolds.
· Smart Automation Programming: Install, program, and precisely calibrate digital cloud-based irrigation controllers (e.g., Hydrawise, Hunter, Rain Bird) to manage multi-zone water budgeting in strict compliance and alignment with Metro Vancouver municipal water restrictions.
· Water Asset Maintenance: Write specifications on custom garden layouts, water and tend to specialized plants, lawns, or delicate botanical environments, and manage automated irrigation lines alongside ornamental ponds, fountains, and waterfalls.
· System Installation & Zoning: Design layout, zone, and professionally install safe, energy-efficient low-voltage (12V–24V) outdoor landscape lighting networks. Seamlessly position fixtures, pathway illumination, up-lights, and well-lights to accentuate natural garden architecture and stone features.
· Engineering & Infrastructure: Run structural low-voltage direct-burial cables (e.g., 12/2 or 10/2 landscape wire) safely through designated garden beds and structural paths, executing precise voltage-drop calculations across long runs. Assemble robust, weatherproof multi-tap transformers, hubs, photocells, and automated timers.
· Hardscape Integration: Core-drill and integrate wiring paths smoothly into structural stone steps, concrete pavements, custom decks, and retaining walls, utilizing protective conduits where necessary to completely conceal and protect the grid infrastructure.
· Blueprint Interpretation: Accurately read, interpret, and translate complex landscape blueprints, structural scales, and technical layout designs into precise field construction configurations.
· Hard Landscaping: Construct highly durable structural driveways, pathways, stairs, patios, pavements, and decks. Masterfully handle interlocking brick, fieldstone paths, rock gardens, pouring concrete, and structural stone/retaining walls.
· Soft Landscaping: Complete precise botanical installations including strategic plant layout configurations, moving and planting heavy specimen trees, and maintaining private and public lawns or gardens.
· Feature Elements: Coordinate and oversee the placement of individual decorative elements such as complex boulder arrangements, natural stone steps, and custom step construction.
· Crew Supervision: Supervise, train, mentor, and smoothly coordinate the daily activities, tasks, and safety profiles of a dedicated field crew of landscape labourers.
· Strategic Consultations: Consult professionally with operational managers and customers regarding ongoing field planning, execution details, and coordination of plant material options for specific landscaping sites.
· Quality Assurance: Ensure all field operations, technical installations, and physical structures flawlessly meet rigid company safety policies and client finish standards.
Employment Requirements
· Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate is required.
· Experience: Minimum of 4 to 5 years of proven, verifiable experience in professional hardscape/softscape installation, low-voltage systems, and advanced irrigation grid management within residential, commercial, strata, or public works environments.
· Technical & Diagnostics Knowledge: Understanding of landscape lighting design concepts (uplighting, moonlighting)
· Ability to utilize a digital multimeter to accurately diagnose field voltage drops, line shorts, open circuits, and poor network connections.
· Language: English
· Driver's License: Valid driver’s license
· Computer Knowledge: Basic operational knowledge of MS Word and MS Outlook for field reporting and email communications.
Work Conditions & Physical Capabilities
· Physical Fitness: Physically demanding role requiring high manual dexterity, repetitive tasks, heavy lifting/handling of heavy loads, and acute attention to sharp details. Demands a constant combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, and standing for highly extended periods of time.
· Work Site Environment: The vast majority of work is done outdoors in highly diverse weather conditions (including extreme cold, rain, and hot summer weather) and frequently loud, noisy environments.
· Own Tools & Safety Equipment: Candidates are required to provide their own basic hand tools, steel-toed safety boots, certified hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, working gloves, and protective ear plugs.
