The Department of Ancient History, Papyrology, and Epigraphy at the University of Vienna is a leading international centre for the scientific study of the cultures, societies, and political organisations of the ancient Mediterranean region. Our focus ranges from the period from the Late Bronze Age and the emergence of writing systems to the transition from Late Antiquity to the Early Middle Ages. Geographically, we focus on the civilizations and cultures of the Apennine Peninsula (Rome, Etruria and the Italic peoples), the regions along the Danube and the Balkans, Asia Minor and Greco-Roman Egypt. We place particular emphasis on the connections and interactions of these cultures as well as on the analysis of written documents.

Your workplace:
The Senior Lecturer position is assigned to the Department of Ancient History, Papyrology, and Epigraphy, whose focus in research and teaching extends over the entire history of Greco-Roman antiquity and the culture of writing as well as its mediation media. Their field of activity is primarily in basic scientific teaching in the introductory and orientation phase StEOP of the Bachelor's degree program and in the basic phase of the Master's degree program in Ancient History and Classical Studies. In addition, you will be assigned to teach courses on Greco-Roman source studies and Latin epigraphy, preferably with a focus on digital edition studies.
The employment of 22.8 hours/week includes a teaching obligation of an average of 8 hours per week of academic teaching per semester.

- Completed doctorate in ancient history
- Research activities and publication services on questions of ancient history, especially with regard to the
- Expertise in the field of literary and/or epigraphic sources as well as digital epigraphy
- Several years of independent and broad university teaching experience
- Enthusiasm for the transfer of knowledge and for university teaching
- Didactically competent handling of digital and hybrid teaching and learning environments including AI
- Excellent knowledge of ancient languages (Latin and Ancient Greek)
- Excellent knowledge of German (C1 level)
- Proven ability to work in a team and inclusion skills
