Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking applications for a Senior Lecturer or Lecturer position in our Te Reo team. Our team teaches a range of te reo Māori courses from beginners to advanced levels. We also deliver programmes within the School of Education, so we are particularly interested in applicants who have experience in the Education sector. Our curriculum includes marae visits at AUT's Ngā Wai o Horotiu Marae so the successful candidate should be confident in tikanga Māori and marae protocols.

Duties include:

  • Teaching te reo Māori (can include absolute beginners to advanced courses).
  • Teaching Māori specific content (may include a variety of topics such as marae protocols, history of te reo Māori, waiata, etc).
  • Development of content and curriculum.
  • Supporting marae visits.
  • Contributing to kaupapa Māori events and projects.

He kōrero mōu | About you

  • Must hold a postgraduate qualification (Masters' ideally with a Māori specialisation and/ or teaching specialisation).
  • be able to work independently and within a team.
  • have experience teaching te reo Māori at university/ wānanga level (preferred).
  • be confident in te reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori.
  • be flexible (hours and working locations may vary).
  • have experience with te reo curriculum development (advantageous).
  • Proven leadership experience (advantageous).

Salary Range:

Lecturer - $89,000 - $105,000 (appointment level and salary commensurate with skills and experience)

Senior Lecturer - $109,000 - $142,000 (appointment level and salary commensurate with skills and experience)
