The Real Estate Authority (REA) is the independent government agency that regulates the New Zealand Real Estate profession. Our purpose is to promote and protect the interests of consumers in real estate transactions and promote public confidence in the performance of real estate agency work.
REA is a high performing respected conduct regulator with a critical role in the real estate sector. We license real estate agents, oversee the code of conduct, continuing professional development and the complaints and discipline process. We are a proactive, evidence-led regulator committed to supporting high standards of conduct in the profession and protecting consumer interests. We strive to understand and serve the needs of New Zealand's diverse communities in all of our work.
REA offers a diverse and inclusive work environment. We welcome people who bring a range of perspectives, skills and experience.
The role
As a regulator operating in a dynamic environment with significant regulatory, legislative and compliance implications for the real estate industry, the Senior Legal and Regulatory Policy Advisor works to identify opportunities for improvement to our regulatory system.
This senior role enables proactive engagement with the sector and wider property system in issues of importance in the real estate sector, ensuring REA effectively delivers its regulatory mandate.
We're looking for someone to:
- Actively monitor and evaluate legislative and regulatory changes to ensure alignment with REA's activities
- Be responsible for creating sound, thoughtful legal and regulatory policy advice, solutions and approaches that deliver on our legislative intent, support REA's strategic priorities and meet our overall purpose.
- Play a key part in supporting effective decision making by the senior leadership team, Chief Executive and board on regulatory policy issues.
- Work across REA in assessing the operational impact of legislative change and policy development and to ensure REA remains up to date with such changes to our legislative and regulatory operating environment
- Identify and advise on opportunities to improve REA's regulatory impact and meet its strategic goals and priorities.
About you
You'll be a qualified lawyer with at least 5 years post admission experience. Your experience working in a regulatory and policy environment and sound understanding of the machinery of government is essential to allow you to create sound, thoughtful operational policy advice, solutions and approaches.
Benefits
REA's people are welcoming, collaborative and committed to making a difference for New Zealand. You can expect rewarding and complex work in a sector that is critical to New Zealand. A central Wellington CBD location, commitment to staff professional development, and an active social club are some of the benefits of joining the REA team.
