As the Senior Director of Commercial Legal at Staffbase, you will lead a high performing, legal team supporting the global commercial function, as well as the broader legal team as it aims to scale and evolve into a modern, best-in-class legal business unit.
What you'll be doing
- Oversee the execution of a high volume of revenue generating commercial transactions and procurement activities in DACH, Northern EMEA, USA and APAC
- Lead and develop a team of commercial lawyers and paralegals in a high-velocity environment, across multiple jurisdictions and languages, with a strong focus on individual learning
- Report to the General Counsel and be a strategic partner to Procurement, Sales, Sales Enablement, Deal Desk and Finance
- Collaborate proactively with stakeholders on legal risks, strategy, compliance, and policy in relation to enterprise sales, procurement, operations, and business growth
- Negotiate and execute on complex, high-risk enterprise transactions and take a pragmatic position on risk where necessary
- Develop, manage and deliver legal operations projects to scale the business, using the latest tech tools and modern legal design thinking, e.g. playbooks, contract lifecycle management tools, legal front door, AI chatbots
- With Legal Ops, create metrics for the legal team, collect and analyse data, and regularly report to the wider company with the objective of optimising legal resources.
- Deputise for the GC wherever necessary
What you need to be successful
- High level of business acumen with an appreciation for weighing legal and business risk
- Business proficiency in English and German
- 8+ years of commercial legal experience in an in-house legal department, with at least 5 years in a B2B SaaS company
- Expertise in Technology law, SaaS, Software licensing, IP and, Data Privacy and Legal Ops
- Excellent consultative, advisory and influencing skills
- Demonstrated strategic approach to long-term action planning and execution
- Experience developing and leading distributed teams in a complex environment with a high volume of matters and different cultures
