Senior Medical Scientist - Bloodbank

Applications are invited for the Permanent position of Senior Medical Scientist in Bloodbank based in St Vincent's University Hospital.

Essential Criteria

The post holder must have:

Hold a qualification recognised by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU

Or

Hold a qualification recognised by the Department of Health (An Roinn

Slainte) as laid down in the HSE Eligibility Criteria dated 02/04/2020

And

possess fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences or eligibility for

fellowship

Minimum of four years' experience post qualification and with experience as a medical scientist in a blood transfusion laboratory or a stem cell laboratory

Desirable

It is desirable for the post holder to have:

Worked in an Accredited laboratory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

General:

• Undertake as required any key function within the ISO15189 quality system.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of professional developments.
• Maintain throughout the Hospital awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all hospital activities.
• Participate in developing the Blood Transfusion service to meet the clinical needs of our patients and ensuring that the service is consistent with the mission, vision values and strategic plan of the Hospital.
• Assist in training of staff in the department for the provision of both the routine and on-call services.
• Participate in activities related to Stem cell collection, processing, storage and transplant.
• Participate in the implementation of operational processes to the standards of best practice in order to optimise use of resources.
• Actively participate in and promote continuing education and research activities consistent with the values of the Hospital.
• Promote open communications throughout the Hospital.
