Senior Molecular Microbiologist Weekend

Microsearch Laboratories Ltd is a unique company situated in Mytholmroyd, at the heart of the beautiful Calder Valley, where it was founded over 30 years ago. Microsearch is a UKAS accredited laboratory and provides reputable analytical services to the food industry. The company has expanded considerably since it was established and now comprises of five separate laboratories based across two locations.

We are looking for a Molecular Microbiologist to join a developing department in DNA testing for a range of bacterial pathogens using PCR and LAMP technology as well provide assistance to the Diagnostics department. The successful candidate needs to be hard working, efficient and able to work on their own initiative, with attention to detail and good organisational skills.

Duties will include:

• Testing routine samples by PCR or LAMP.
• Liaising across other departments to locate and assess which samples require testing daily.
• Analysing results to ensure they are correct, retesting samples where required.
• Liaise with the Subculture and Diagnostics department to discuss samples that require Microbiological confirmation.
• Reporting results to customers
• Keeping accurate records, maintaining equipment and calculation sheets using excel spreadsheets.
• Keeping the department clean and tidy always.
• Preparing the Laboratory for visits and audits by customers and accrediting bodies.
• Any other duties that arise to ensure the smooth running of the Molecular Biology laboratory.
• Provide assistance to the Subculture and Diagnostics laboratories with roles including: streaking agar plates, counting of plates, serotyping, grouping and identifying organisms.

Essential Criteria

• Science related qualification preferably Biology based degree or currently working towards.
• Excellent communication skills
• Must have a degree of flexibility regarding working hours depending on the needs of the department.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience in PCR.
• Previous laboratory experience.
• Knowledge of Molecular Biology.

Working patterns available are:

• Saturday and Sunday, 12pm to 8pm with a 30-minute unpaid break.

Flexibility is required.

Rate of pay is between - £8.90 - £13.00 dependant on age.
