About the role
The Senior Payroll/Human Resource Information System (HRIS) Administrator is responsible for providing Payroll/HRIS system support, advice and services to the organisation to ensure that all employees receive accurate and timely Payroll/HRIS services. The role will also be required to provide support to the Payroll Manager by taking leadership as the first point of contact for other Payroll/HRIS administrators to escalate, report and query any payroll matters. This role works predominantly without supervision.
In this role you will be providing support, advice and above all, an efficient and accurate payroll service across our diverse organisation.
Key responsibilities of your role include but are not limited to the following:
- Participate in the day to day administration, maintenance, reporting and operations of the payroll (HRIS) to ensure payroll processing and related activities are completed accurately and on time
- Provide professional leadership, coaching and direction to other Payroll/HRIS Administrators and those outside of the team
- Provide timely and accurate confidential administrative support to enable the efficient functioning of the service
- Provide expert information to customer enquiries relating to pay, leave entitlements, and form completion. Employee details are responded to with a high degree of customer service
- Manage and communicate complex and/or sensitive payroll issues
- Ensure the timely and accurate processing of all Payroll/HRIS related activities
This is a Monday to Friday role during standard office hours, with flexibility on start and finish times to allow you a balance with commitments outside of your working life.

About you
We are on the lookout for a team player who will bring their extensive knowledge and experience within payroll to actively contribute to the smooth running of the service.
Our ideal candidate will have the following:
- At least four years of New Zealand payroll experience
- Two or more years working in a large complex payroll environment with multiple collective agreements
- High levels of computer literacy particularly within Excel and other Microsoft applications
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.

Salary range
This role is covered by the terms and conditions of the CEA and the salary will be in this role is covered by the terms and conditions of the PSA South Island Clerical Multi-Employer Collective Agreement, and the salary will be in accordance with the National Health Administration Workers Pay Scale, Band 7, between $80,026 and $84,491 p.a dependent on relevant experience.
